You should still read the ABR NIS packet, though

Although not perfect , it is an amazingly well written simplification of complex topics needed for the boards. It's funny (like all of Lionharts books), and very entertaining. The author does use profanity and seems to enjoy picking on academics - which adds a unique flavor to the book. Really nothing else like this has been written. Other books on the subject are incredibly dry and don't explain topics well. This is the opposite. Definitely not dry - which is impressive for a physics book. Rapid review tables are also extremely useful. Any resident taking the exam is at a disadvantage to not use the text. Career Academics who have been teaching physics badly for 30 years are obviously threatened by the book (hence the 1 star review) - which should in itself be an endorsement of the texts utility. Lionhart is the man - he's single handedly helped thousands of residents pass their boards through texts like this and his clinical board series (and videos). Highest possible endorsement
In my opinion, books like this should be judged based on their ability to teach complex material in a way that is understandable and readable. In a few days, I learned more about physics than in 3 years of innumerable physics lectures and "physics boot camps" at my institution. This is also significantly less painful than the RSNA physics modules which are an excellent substitute for Ambien. For this reason, the book deserves a 5.Is the book perfect? No. But it is the most digestable read of a complex subject. More importantly, it is taught to the level of its intended audience.Warning: As one reviewer pointed out, there are times when Prometheus cracks a vulgar or cynical joke throughout the text, particularly during his non-interpretive skills review. If you are offended by this type of thing, I would look for other texts. For me, these moments were a welcome reprieve from the beat down of learning physics and non-interpretive skills. These jokes helped to keep me awake, and believe it or not, I may have even smiled, nay, laughed. Weird. I know.
The only tolerable source for physics learning that's out there. Condensed, to the point, yet comprehensive enough to walk you through the physics concepts needed to both understand ABR physics and pass the CORE.
I am a Professor of Radiology at an academic medical center with 30 years experience teaching imaging physics to residents in diagnostic radiology. In the last couple of years, residents in our program have begun to consult this book. Indeed, for some of them, it has emerged as the primary resource for preparing for the first of the national board certification exams, the Core Exam. For this reason, I ordered a copy of Radiologic Physics. The book is a disturbing, profound disappointment. The author, presumably a former resident who has passed the exam, has chosen wisely to conceal his name and affiliation. He (from the blatant disrespect for women shown in this book, we can be sure it is a "he") has no interest in the subject, which he dismisses frequently as "trivia". Similarly, he has no respect for the attending radiologists who supervised his training or for those who oversee and write the Core Exam. This tiresome dismissal of the profession is expressed in an endless stream of vulgarity. It is difficult to understand how anyone preparing for a career in radiology would have any use or tolerance for this book. If there were an option for zero stars, I would have selected it.
THE Best book for studying physical for the radiology core exam. Nothing comes close. Would have failed without it. This is a must!!!** Revision - this is the only book I used. I did however MEMORIZE it cover to cover. Scored in the mid 600s on physics. Again, a must!
