#62,419 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I have been a fan of the Dark-Hunters since Night Pleasures came out, have spent countless hours discussing the series, have recommended it high and low to lovers of both romance and fantasy. And I have never, ever been more disappointed both in a book and in an author.Dragonmark was a $14.99 ebook. Over 75% of the story is sections (not every section she pasted had Illarion in it!) straight up copy/pasted from Son of No One and Dragonbane. Styxx was a wonderful story that showed a parallel perspective on familiar scenes from the series. Dragonmark is freaking 75% chapters we have already read with almost ZERO additional information interspersed in the words we've already read. She didn't even bother to rewrite the scenes from Illarion's perspective. This was straight up copy and pasted, slapped on a novelette about how Illarion and Edilyn met the first time. There is only one chapter that takes place after Dragonbane. One.I can't believe that this book was NOT ONLY $14.99 as an ebook, but that it wasn't a novella in the first place. I intend to write to her publisher and to iBooks. I know there is little chance of a refund, but this is ABSOLUTELY INSANE.Anyone like to take a crack at explaining how and why this happened?

I have read every one of her books. Several multiple times. I did not appreciate paying so much money to reread a mash-up of previous books. This was a novella at best filling in some holes left behind in the previous 2 books. The very short new material at the end could have been included at the beginning of the next book in the series. Anyone reading it as a stand alone may be satisfied, however, anyone following the series will be disappointed. This book has 28 chapters and an Epilogue. Chapters 1-13, 27-28, and the Epilogue were new material. Please note that chapters 27-epilogue were only pages long. All of the rest of the book were scenes cut from Son of No One and Dragonbane which had the protagonist Illarion present. Unfortunately they were unmodified and remained in the original points of view of Cadogan and Maximillian. Every once in a while a few sentences were inserted to transition between cuts containing Illarion's point of view. This was distracting because I found myself losing track of Illarion. There was no attempt to give the reader a new understanding of the scenes by providing Illarion's thoughts or emotions. Most of the scenes remained focused on others while Illarion played a tangential role. Some of the scenes were completely unnecessary. It seemed as if the author did a word search and added any scene in which he was mentioned. Other scenes were completely left out which destroyed continuity. Finally, the timeline was jumbled. It went from the past, the present, the very distant past, with a return to the present. The recap of the very distant past was unnecessary and was already part of someone else's story. It added nothing to this story and led nowhere.I am very disappointed and angry that the author did not take the effort to change the point of view to that of the protagonist. She made no effort to make the parts flow. This book is disjointed and awkward.Sherrilyn Kenyon should be ashamed. She takes advantage of her fans by charging the full price of a novel without the effort or content we are paying for.

I've never given SK a negative review. I love both her DH books and her Avalon series under another name. I was looking forward to this book for thst reason.I would never pay, nor think an author who has such a loyal fanbase and the talent to back it up would ask herreaders to pay a full hardback release price for a book that has to be at least 75 percent copy and pasted. Maybethere is subtle word differences. I'm not wasting my time to go look. This book was mostly duplicated scenes from the other two in this part of the storyline.I cannot, in good conscience recommend this book at this price to another. It is little more than a short story that has been stretched out with filler from the previous books in order to categorize it as a novel. I am likely going to ask for a refund due to misrepresentation. It's sad. Years were glossed over in a single sentence that could have covered their story. Her time away could have been more than a footnote. So many options to tale what was a beautiful love story, but instead the readers and the characters were betrayed by the authorand eeditors. Speaking of which, a few name mix-ups onthe editing too.I'm really disappointed in this one. Check it out from your library, or wait for it at a used bookstore. There's going to be a lot of disgruntled long-time readers on this one.

I've never felt so ripped off from a book in my life. What publisher even thought this was acceptable? Regurgitated passages from other books, some new content and a half-assed plot is what this book contains. I'd like that money and time in my life back.

For the price, it was a rip off to have 87% of this book from previous works WORD FOR WORD! I feel abused by Ms Kenyon's arrogance as a beloved author that her fans who wouldn't notice her plagiarism from previous books!Very disappointed

Just lost the review I had written, will attempt to rewrite later but suffice to say I would wait till it comes down in price. Disappointing from such a wonderful author.Especially the fact that a large portion of the book is copied from previous books (with minor changes that don't affect the story)As someone with very little money I had to choose between this and Harry Potter and for the first time I regret buying an Kenyon book :(

As president of Sea for Yourself snorkeling tours, I'm obligated on behalf of my clients, to stay informed about the destinations we visit. Although we've been operating programs in Tonga for many years that allow snorkelers to actually swim with humpback whales, we keep a copy of David's Tonga/Samoa Handbook in the office in order to answer questions from clients about areas other than Tonga. In addition to Tonga, this book has extensive coverage of Samoa, American Samoa, and Niue.In this book, the reader will find all the practical info (that continues to distinguish all of David's books) including travel tips, accommodations, meals, etc. I also appreciate the special attention given to cultural background, political and economic elements, and particular vignettes (such as the explanations of coral reef ecology and the palolo worm). However, the sections I personally find most useful include the pages on Internet sites, email addresses, and the bibliography.I started using David's books (South Pacific Handbook) in 1982, and they have always been valuable and trusted travel companions. We always take this book with us on our programs to Tonga because it makes a useful reference for both staff and participants. Plus, since this book is easily available, I'm always happy to refer our clients to David's Tonga/Samoa Handbook when they are seeking to purchase a single accurate source of both practical and background information about this section of the Pacific.

First I have a confession to make - I am nuts about the South Pacific so any guidebook to the area has to really win me over. It must provide an accurate history and a concise background to the region as well as informing me about agreeable places to stay, enjoyable places to eat, how to get around easily, decent maps and of course the places and things to avoid. This guidebook comes up trumps in all these areas and will certainly be my trusty companion for the next trip. In this 320 plus page first edition (an amalgam of two previous separate ones by the same highly knowledgeable author) the extensive detail of Tonga and Samoa's history, politics, flora and wildlife provides a thorough background and could be a volume in itself. It also includes American Samoa and Niue so encompasses an entire area of the Pacific. Importantly, Stanley states that he does not accept 'freebies' from tourist boards etc. but pays his own way, a very significant point as it makes him objective not having to return favours. This certainly comes across in the places I know from personal experience and his reviews about hotels for instance are usually brief but mostly valid about the ones I have stayed at. A key factor for my buying a guidebook is the quality of the maps, they make a huge difference and inaccurate poorly drawn ones are worse than useless. Previous Moon guidebooks were let down by the maps which were thin and skimpily done on paper with a lot of 'show through' which made them confusing. Thankfully rectified in this edition, they are now excellent. I like it even more because it is not aimed solely at backpackers at one end or expense account travellers at the other unlike some other guidebooks. It is broader based and not condescending should you wish to stay in local huts and eat off market stalls or the best hotels and eat the finest meals in Tonga and Samoa. Quite rightly, Stanley doesn't lead you to expect too much in an area that is not wealthy by Western standards of affluence, although rich in other ways with scenery and people which are the stuff of collective dreams planted in our psyche by Gauguin, Robert Louis Stevenson and others more than a century ago. He puts these countries into context with the reality of what they have to offer and prepares you in advance to expect what you would think is only second rate in say New York but this is the Pacific and that's as good as it gets. Considering the frugality of how most of the population of these countries live themselves it is more than good enough. So if you are crossing the Pacific with a stopover in these countries and are considering a guidebook, take this one. It will take you deftly through these 'paradise islands' yet neither lead you astray or to expect too much, just like a good friend which it will surely become.

David Stanley has done it again. Following his excellent and thorough guides on Fiji and Tahiti, he has put out THE guide to Tonga and Samoa in the South Pacific. This 320+ page tome is in fact indispensable to travelers intending to see and experience Tonga and Samoa. From his intro section on the land, flora & fauna, history, people, etc. through travel tips etc. Stanley seems to leave no stone unturned. The country sections include thorough and detailed descriptions of the towns, districts, areas, etc. plus recommendations on lodging, restaurants, activities, etc. Whether a backpacker looking for budget digs or a traveler seeking a holiday resort experience, you'll find it and more in these pages. Stanley shares his wealth of knowledge of and about travel in Tonga, Samoa, American Samoa and Niue with an eye for detail. He covers just about every possible aspect of travel in the islands. The book is loaded with excellent detailed maps that are easy to read and follow. There are also very helpful and practical sections on Resources-Information Offices, a great Bibliography, and an Internet list with numerous contacts for South Pacific culture, history and information, lodging, travel, dining, activities, tours, etc. For travelers planning to visit Tonga and Samoa, this is the one guide you need to have. It'll be in my bag next trip to the islands.

David Stanley says he always travels incognito and never takes any "freebies" from any travel purveyors, so he doesn't get any special treatment that you wouldn't get and he doesn't "owe" anyone a good review. And you can sure tell. He is not afraid to give his opinion on anything and everything. Isn't that what you really need from a guidebook? If I want a sanitized version, I can get that for free from the tourist bureau. I like to know if a company is dispreputable or if a hotel is unsafe--especially for a woman traveler. I also especially liked the introductory sections that give you a good background of the culture of the peoples and info on the unusual flora and fauna.

If you want to truly understand the mistakes of others who have optimistically written off the prospects of war, this book is for you. Its opening section including nine concise chapters on future visions that misread both World Wars. Norman Angell's Great Illusion accurately noted that there was no rational reason to go to war given its immense costs, but as Freedman shows, wars are not always a rational response to political pressures. Freedman's inclusion of H.G. Wells and George Orwell added insights that I'd not seen in my own research. Readers who hope that Stephen Pinker's Better Angels of our Nature represents an accurate projection of a peaceful future, will want to see the author's detailed review of the various intellectual flaws and suspect casualty statistics that undergird that optimism.I think this can be a great course book for a two semester course on Past Thinking of Future Wars, and Contemporary Issues in Warfare. (The bibliography alone is worth the price of the book). The closing sections on climate change, mega-cities, water wars, hybrid conflicts, and information warfare are valuable summaries that can be supplemented with deep dive articles. Dr. Freedman's critique of water wars was compelling, and think his skepticism could be carried over to urbanization as well. My only complaint is the emphasis on Anglo-American insights, and hope that Professor Freedman can extend this work into Russia, Chinese and Middle East perspectives on war and warfare.

Lawrence Friedman is one of my favorite authors on this topic. The title makes it seem that this is about the future of work it is not. This book is a compilation and overview of the historical approach to writing about the future of War. Amazing in its own right but don't read it because you want to read about robots fighting over lunar landscapes. This is about how people have speculated about the future of modern conflict from the Battle of Darby going forward. Tremendous work I recommend everything mr. Friedman writes

Well-written, thoughtful analysis. Helps the reader understand the fallacies of believing in short wars and needless overseas conflict. The only drawback was that part three seemed to cover much of what part two had talked about. Draws in some of the best strategy and history ever written.

Absolutely brilliant. A profound reflection on the never ending quest for peace and the unchanging human propensity for violence rendered in a straightforward style. The immense background of literature - specialized or not - provides an ample and solid foundation for the penetrating interpretations offered by the author.

This is a great survey of the field—particularly the history of IR in the 20th century. Each chapter provides context for the narrative, while also standing on its own. Worth the bibliography alone. Best Book of 2017!

gets you thinking about the future war. It seems that we are living one now with the wars within the internet and twisting of public opinion and fake news.

Professor Friedman has pulled off quite a feat: to write a boring book about war. After a promising start debunking Stephen Pinker's fatuous Better Angels book, this treatise devolves into a series of dry rehashes of various conflicts ancient and modern, interspersed with detailed explorations of questions of no interest to anyone outside academia - such as how many people really died in WWII, was it 40 million or maybe 50 million? With virtually no new insights or analysis, and burdened by a deadly dull writing style, reading this book felt a lot like the old joke with the punch line "there must be a pony in here somewhere" - except there isn't.

From the history to the future: the presentation of the development of one of the greatest processes which determine the fate of the mankind. Very ineresting and inspiring.
