So this is set some 20 years after the Kong Skull Island movie. First the good: the artwork is great and much better than the Godzilla Awakening prequel comic in my opinion. The artist captures the look and feel of the island, characters, and monsters (especially Kong) perfectly with a much more realistic style than the Godzilla prequel. Secondly the bad: where to begin? I was expecting an update on Kong 20 plus years later. What the story seems to do is rehash what we already know from the movie regarding Kong, the tribe living there, and the monsters. It does introduce some monsters that were not in the movie but they play a very small role. The plot device for going back in time and seeing how Kong came to be and the fate of his species is just too weak to consider in my mind. It almost seems they are trying not to add anything that the movie has not already dealt with. I thought this would be a great opportunity regarding what the Monarch agency has found out about other monsters as we are teased at the end of the Skull Island movie. No. We know that Kong will face Godzilla in 2020. I thought we would see how Kong might be growing to become a real threat against Godzilla (Kong is about 100 feet and Godzilla is over 300 feet based on the info from the movies). No. As I said other than a really weak plot device to find out about Kong's past we really don't learn anything new at all - even from the Monarch files included in the end of the book - The official Movie website has more information than this story or the information in the special features of the Blu-ray of Kong Skull Island. That's why I was so disappointed with this - except for the great artwork. It doesn't really carry anything beyond the movie. If this series is a setup for a follow up regarding Kong and that does address the topics above then maybe it will be a sub-part of the bigger story - but as a stand alone story (especially if this is all that will be produced before Godzilla King of the Monsters in 2019) then the reader will miss nothing by skipping this graphic novel entirely (except for the great art). Normally I am not so negative but with the Blu-ray features and what those hinted at in the Kong movie I was expecting a lot more and simply it is not there.

*SPOILER FREE*This is interesting because it labels itself as a prequel, but most of the events of the story takes place 20 years after the events of the movie. The "prequel" parts are flashbacks of sorts. The story itself didn't reveal a whole lot to quite justify it's length, but it was still interesting nonetheless. The back of it has some "extra files" describing all the "animals" on the island, including some that dont show up in the movie or comic.The pictures themselves seemed a little difficult to pick out details. I'm not sure if it's the material it is printed on, a lack of contrast in the art, or I'm just not used to it.

Comic jumps around so much and has so many inconsistencies that I kept thinking that I accidentally missed a page. Nope terrible writing. There is a bestiary in the back that is kind of cool. But there is literally a copy and paste error there. A log has the last two lines of a bug monster's description copied and pasted into it. It's not even a full sentence copied. A sentence ends and then a half sentence begins. It clearly wasn't supposed to be there

To get the full monsterverse experience you might want this but you don’t necessarily need this. Kong himself doesn’t have much of a part which is why it only gets four stars but the monster profiles in the back are neat and really help expand skull island.

It is a graphic novel. If you could call it a novel, more like a comic book. Very disappointed. Way overpriced for what it was. It really didn’t answer anything and it had these visions that we’re just assumable activities.

Good midquel/prequel/sequel story, wonder how much of it actually carries over into the movies though

I'd give 4-1/2 stars for the writers grammatical errors. Otherwise I enjoyed this. The story was "pretty good" and I liked the artwork.

It was a gift they loved it.

Worthy ending to the Sparrow.I resisted this book for years. How could anything live up to The Sparrow? Oh, me, of little faith, the circle is so beautifully completed.Read The Sparrow first, and then this wonderful book takes you on the same journey as the crew of the Stella Maris, because what you think you understand, what seems obvious to you, is utterly wrong. The villains of the first piece have agendas so different from your assumptions that, after surviving the shock of the first book, you will have to rethink everything. Ms. Russell didn't lie to us, she just let us make all the wrong conclusions. Of all the ideas these books present, this feels the truest - As Fr. Sandoz says of Voelker in The Sparrow, "...It's human nature. He wanted it to be some mistake I made that he wouldn't have made." We all made exactly the same mistake at the end of The Sparrow. We thought we'd sorted it out.That the characters I so loved could come back into my life and make me cry all over again is a testament to Ms. Russell's amazing skill with a story. 4 1/2 stars actually! This 2 volume set is, imo, exceptionally well thought out; and, for this reader, another crack in the cosmic egg of my world. For anyone who is in any manner committed to honest self examination, expansion, or continued personal growth, so to speak, this book (as well as "The Sparrow") accomplishes just that, and more. Aside from the story of the revolutionary, cultural, upheaval on the planet Rakhat (which is interesting enough in and of itself) the reader is almost forced to go beyond the confines of our ordinary way of looking at our own civilization. Some of us will even come to face the notion that many of us are not much more than meat or food for the ruling class.Thank you Mary Doria Russell for a most thoughtful, useful, and interesting excursion!

I too felt that the Sparrow was a good standalone book and did not need a sequel, however, the sequel did turn out to be a fine book of its own.There are many underlying moral issues to be pondered. The ethics of population control, the difficulty of avoiding negligent harm arising from sex, the tendency of intercultural contact to lead to serious harm to one or both cultures, etc.I did think more could have been done with the Earthen characters. I was waiting for a discussion as to the theology of evangelizing an alien race in the first place, but no real discussion of that ever occurred. I do believe there is indeed quite a bit to be learned of the theology of suffering and forgiveness from this story, however, I was left feeling that the ending in which Sandoz has his moment with Isaac's music was a little forced and was only there to make the ending a happier one, which isn't always the case.A great story, not quite as emotion-wrenching as the Sparrow, but a great read for anyone into sci-fi or intercultural fiction.

I just finished reading this book (after already reading the other one) then I sobbed for 15 minutes straight. Not because I disliked the book. Not so much because of sadness that it was over but more for relief... & for my own happiness at the end.I so loved reading this book as well as it's predecessor. The writing is superb, the characters so vivid & real that I felt like I could reach out & touch them. The story is so unique & well developed...I can't say enough. Why didn't I know about these 2 books before now? If you enjoy sci-fi you'll enjoy this. If you aren't into sci-fi don't worry, chances are you'll like this anyway...it's just a great story.This 2 book series has already won many accolades and so you don't need to hear me go on and on about how wonderful it is. Also I'm sure many other reviewers before me have given a detailed synopses of what the story is about. I'm sure many people have even told you who the characters are and what the plot is. So I don't need to do that.I will say this, yes the book has deep religious and spiritual themes through-out. All the main characters seem to go through real tests of the human spirit - dark night of the soul type of stuff. So it's a heavy book that makes you think just because so many topics are brought up. If you 'hate' this type of book then it may not be for you. However, I'd recommend that you get out of your comfort zone and try this. It'll be good for you to put yourself in the place of some of these characters and think about what you'd do if you were them.Wishing you the best if you choose to try out these books. They are going to the top of my Top 10 list.

Stumbled upon this find while looking for expat reads. I was instantly hooked after :looking inside" and read it straight through. I can't wait to read more of this authors books! I love books I can read that completely take me away and make me feel as though I am right there in the story or watching first-hand. I adored this <3 Never a dull moment, it kept getting better and better. I especially enjoyed how it didn't end abruptly-like most reads. You know how you just really don't want it to end? This author keeps giving more and more to the last sentence. Not over-done, it is perfect! It feels complete and I have closure. No wondering or uneasiness...I am deliriously tired as it is 2 am, I am hoping I am leaving a fabulous review. :) highly recommend this book!!

This book. Where do I even start?I read this because my book club picked it. It is probably not something I would have chosen on my own. That being said, I gave it a chance, and thought it started okay. Then I started noticing things.First, why the shifting points of view? Lizzy and Ren tell their story in first person, Ty is inexplicably in second person, and Kylie is in third person. Why? It was really distracting to me.Second, way too much explanation of each character's movements. "He gets up ... walks to his left around the table ... lifts his arm at a 52 degree angle, stares hungrily into my eyes with his electric blue eyes ..." blah blah blah ... zzzzzz ...Third, what is with the ridiculous kidnaping of the daughter? It barely fits with the plot. There had to be some way to get Ty and Lizzy home from Italy that was not completely contrived.By the end of the book I was going to lose it if one more character "raked his hand" through his hair. Seriously.Overall, I teach high school kids who are stronger writers than this. Save your money.

As I've been in Tuscany just recently, the title of this book appealed to me. I loved every page from start to finish. Brought back memories of my own time in this picturesque place. What I appreciated about this book is the decency of no sex scenes just good romance.

First of all, I love stories that take place in Italy, beautiful, enchanting Italy. It is such a romantic country.This grandma loved "That Month in Tuscany." I could not put it down once I read the first page. I was so happy that Lizzy chose to go to Italy by herself and even happier when she met Ren. I was hoping they both stayed in Italy and didn't go back but life happens and Lizzy had to go back.I loved the ending - beautiful story, makes me wish I was young again. I would create a month in Tuscany. Tuscany has been calling my soul for years. I hope to see it one day. For now, I settle for seeing Tuscany vicariously, through the eyes of wonderful authors like Inglath Cooper.

I chose this rating because, this book caught my attention from the first page and never let it go. Lizzy had a little of me, even the marriage relationship with her husband Ty reached out to me. A twentieth anniversary and a husband who is married to his career and is just selfish. There are twists and turns and a lot of Italy scenery.Lizzy feeling alone comes to life again while in the company of Ren Swayer a rock star. They are both running from the life they have created and end up running away from it together. He reignites things within her she thought was dead.You will enjoy this book thoroughly.

I am one of those readers, who, even though I have a ton of books to read, will still buy more. Frantically, almost like they will disappear.I am not doing anything to improve this condition. :)Amazon suggested this book to me and after reading about it, I wondered why, because I super rarely ever read romance. Especially the boy-meets-girl-loses girl-will he get the girl back?- type of Romance.I downloaded a sample, and was semi-hooked as I started reading.I was afraid with the Rockstar in it, it would give me too much of an 80's vibe. Now, the 80's were awesome, but unless it's the movie Sixteen Candles or Pretty In Pink, I'm not interested.However, this did NOT give me an 80's vibe at all.At the end of the sample, I purchased the rest of the book. Granted, it was predictable in a few places, but overall it was a very, very enjoyable read. So much so, that while I was on a conference call that didn't require much of my attention, I finished reading it on the Kindle app on my smartphone.ALL of the characters are solid and well rounded. The story flowed and was beautiful. This book was originally titled Rock Her, but I feel the new title is so much better! And so much more fitting.That Month in Tuscany . . .Ren Sawyer and Lizzy Harper live completely different lives. He’s a rock star with a secret he can no longer live with. She’s a regular person whose husband stood her up for a long planned anniversary trip. On a flight across the Atlantic headed for Italy, a drunken pity party and untimely turbulence literally drop Lizzy into Ren’s lap. What a beautifully written story, about the love of two people transcending time and tragedy, and about the love of a dog that will never be forgotten. I cry thinking of what they both went through. Life can be cruel and full of tragedy, also full of joy.Loved the bond these two had between them, that was so strong they seamed to keep each other going in life.I know this is a story but have to say I felt like I was right there seeing with my own eyes what they were going through.I could feel the love between them grow even more each time something happened to either of them. I cry hard for what Joe wentthrough in that sandy desert..It made me think of how much I miss my own family and especially my lovely dogs.Love your writing so much.Cindy Riley

I was about to finish another book so I took a look (the dog and title got my attention) to see what it was about. I liked what I read so I downloaded it.I really did not pay too much attention to the Author because I had never heard of this person. I knew the book was fiction and that was fine I just wanted to read a good book. After having read around 15 pages or so I got to thinking how does person named Blake know so much about UT, Austin Tx. and Central Tx in general? I am a native born Texan, avid dog lover and live very near Austin and used to party and work there when I was younger. I have been to many places that Blake named for food and drinks. Anyhow I do a search on the Internet about Blake O'Connor and got my answers. Like me she is a native born Texan and she went to UT.No matter where you live if you want a "make me feel good" book this is the one for you.I just started another book of Blake's called Trust Me and I believe it will be a winner as well.Oh, I just started another book of hers called

One of the best books I have read recently. I laughed and cried. I'm an animal lover and have a big black lab but have had several animal kids over the years and my almost 19 year old cat passed away last April. Joe went through hell but never gave up on love. Animals know when they are loved and they are our devoted partners. This book could be the story of many people and their devoted animal kids. Well written from the heart!

I started reading and couldn't stop until the last page. So many times I wanted to weep for Joe and David. This book hit home for me on several levels, not because I'm a man with a dog, because I'm not! I'm a woman who has suffered from clinical depression and know the depths of despair that you can't explain to friends and family and I'm also an animal lover. And there is depth of empathy that an animal has to understand that just being there is sometimes all you need. But the book also brought me to tears because everyone of my pets has left an indelible impact on my life. I lost my husband nine years ago and five years before he passed away he got me a beautiful little Pom who got me through the bad times, who is a link to my husband. Now old with some serious health issues I dread the day I will lose him, but like David never forgot Joe, I will never forget my Wookie. Thank you for a beautiful book of love and rescue, both directions!

I loved every word of this book. Laughed, wept. All emotions and was sad when the end came. Being a native Texan I knew about old roads, farms, the people...no where but Texas could this been written. Blake, the author, is to be commended for such a heartwarming story. Being raised in North Texas, residing in Corpus Christi several years, Graham, Dallas, Arlington, and now in Cypress, Tx (Houston area), this touched my heart. A must read for all dog lovers.

What a wonderful book! I'm a real dog lover and love dog stories. This one really touched my heart. I believe that dogs have souls too and that at the end of my life, they'll be waiting for me on the "rainbow bridge". I wish they would live forever, but we all know that they don't. I have three now and always have in my adult life: one is a Bassett Hound, one is a Cocker Spaniel, and my newest one is a rescue dog, half Bichon and half mini poodle, who is especially grateful for being rescued from all of those other dogs. We all have a special bond, but especially my rescue dog. I highly recommend it to anyone. I was worried that we wouldn't bond because she was two years old when I got her, but it only took about three minutes! She's always by my side. I hope this author writes many more dog stories.

I chose this rating because I could not put this book down, constantly wanting to know the next turn in the story. I liked the fact that she gave the animals a voice and included them in the story. It wasn't unrealistic because we all know that animals think differently than we do and she portrayed that part to a T.Some parts were very sad and that was very hard, sort of had to skip over the details of the sad parts. If you like romance and animals this book has them both. Very good reading

I love a good dog story, and this is just that ... A good story. It has tragedy, romance and suspense. But most of all, it has a dog .... Joe aka Digger who rescues the man who rescued him from depression, and eventually follows him half way around the globe, and back. Told as a flashback to the Afghan conflict, there are some implausible moments ... That David could actually take Joe with him to the Marine Corps seems unlikely. That the three main characters could end up together in Afghanistan a bit more so. But somehow it works. I read this in a couple of hours. It was a feel good read. I like that even though the dog obviously cannot live as long as the man, there is no death scene. It ends on a very positive note. The loyalty of a dog is hard to describe, but this book does a good job.

My all-time favorite history-and-disease book. First read it as a teen many many years ago, and it probably played a part in focusing my interest in biology. Dr Zinsser shines through on every page, making it highly readable as well as good science (and sociology) history.I highly recommend it.

Interesting and witty read. For anyone interested in the history of Typhus Fever, or just the transmission of disease in general. And/or for people interested in history and/or science. A one-of-a-kind book.

This book met all of my expectations, and more. It was interesting to read the stories of how diseases and parasites had played major roles in the history of the world. A fascinating book.

Even though this book was required for a class, I found it to be entertaining and informative. This book is about how "vermin" have influenced humans throughout history, and why we have certain perceptions about rodents and insects. The book is pretty comprehensive, covering human history from the birth of agriculture to the industrial age to the present day. I think of rodents as misunderstood, so this really resonated with me and helped me understand why some people hate them so much. This book is a pretty short, quick read, so if you're interested in the history of rodents, bugs, and disease, check it out.

Fascinating history of critters we don't think about, but should!!

I love this book! Originally published in 1934, it has withstood the test of time. Clearly, the writer loves his subject. His writing is sly, witty and informative, as he draws the reader in to a growing appreciation of this unusual subject.

great list of the ccg cards, even individualizing within each game the lists of each edition put out. helped me find what cards i have been missing.

Quite useful listing of collectables with some information besides being just a list of CCG (Collectable Card Games). To bad no new printings are likely now or in the future.If you are interested in older CCG or other Collectable games this is the ref. book you really need. I suppose print media is dying a slow death.

I like the item. My only problem with it was the fact that it only covered a certain time peroid for the CCG that i was collecting at the time. This meant that i didn't have the entire lists of all the sagas in the CCG. Other than that it was a great help for what i was looking for. I recommend this product to others and hope they enjoy it as much as I did.
