Tahca Ushte (Lame Deer) was a Lakota medicine man from a land now known as South Dakota ("Sioux" is a white name that insults the Lakota). His government-issued name was John Fire. He was born some time between 1895 and 1903, and died in 1976. His parents were of the last generation to be born wild and free. Two of his grandfathers had been at the battle of Little Big Horn, Custer's last stand, and one of them survived the massacre at Wounded Knee.Lame Deer's early years were spent in a remote location, where they had no contact with the outside world. He never saw a white man until he was five. At 14, he was taken away to a boarding school, where he was prohibited from speaking his language or singing his songs. The class work never went beyond the level of third grade, so Lame Deer spent six years in the third grade. He eventually gained renown for being a rebellious troublemaker. When he was 16, he went on a vision quest, and discovered that he was to become a medicine man.Sons destined to become medicine men were often removed from school by their families, because schooling was harmful to the growth of someone walking a spiritual path. One father drove away truancy officers with a shotgun. For medicine men, the skills of reading and writing had absolutely no value. When Lame Deer was 17, his mother died, and the family fell apart. The white world was closing in, making it hard for his father to survive as a rancher. He gave his children some livestock and wished them good luck. By that time, the buffalo were dead, their land was gone, many lived on reservations, and the good old days for the Lakota were behind them.Lame Deer straddled two worlds, the sacred path of Lakota tradition, and the pure madness of the "frog-skinners," -- people who were driven by an insatiable hunger for green frog-skins (dollar bills). The frog-skinners were bred to be consumers, not human beings, so they were not fun to be around.Lame Deer spent maybe 20 years wandering. He made money as a rodeo rider, clown, square dance caller, potato picker, shepherd, and so on. He always avoided work in factories or offices, "because any human being is too good for that kind of no-life, even white people." He enjoyed many women, did more than a little drinking, stole a few cars, and shunned the conventional civilized life.Between jobs he would return to his reservation and spend time with the elders. During World War II, just before Normandy, he was thrown out of the Army when they discovered that he was 39, too old. Soon after, he abandoned the frog-skin world and became a full time Indian, walking on the sacred path of a medicine man.For the Lakota, the Black Hills were the most sacred place in their world. To retain possession of them, they surrendered much of what became Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. The treaty declared that the Black Hills would remain Indian territory "for as long as the sun shined." Soon after, whites discovered gold in the Black Hills, and flooded into the holy lands with drills, dynamite, whiskey, and prostitutes. The Lakota were horrified by the behavior of these civilized Christians. The frog-skinners exterminated the buffalo, and replaced them with livestock. Buffalo were beings of great power and intelligence. They even had a sense of humor. Lame Deer said that if buffalo were used in bullfighting, the cocky matadors would promptly be trampled and gored into extinction. Cattle were dullards that had the power bred out of them. Sheep and goats would stand calmly while you cut their throats. To provide additional vegetation for the dim-witted livestock, the prairie dogs had to go. Ranchers launched an intensive poisoning campaign that also killed more than a few children and pets. With the prairie dogs gone, there was far less prey for the wolves, coyotes, bobcats, foxes, badgers, hawks, and eagles. A diverse, thriving prairie ecosystem was replaced with monocultures of destructive sub-intelligent exotic species.Sheep were amazingly frail. They often fell over, with their feet in the air, and couldn't get back up again. If the shepherd didn't rescue them, they would bloat up and die. Lambs often had to be hand-raised because their mothers didn't recognize them or feed them."There was great power in a wolf, even in a coyote. You have made him into a freak -- a toy poodle, a Pekingese, a lap dog. ... You have not only altered, declawed, and malformed your winged and four-legged cousins; you have done it to yourselves. ... You live in prisons which you have built for yourselves, calling them homes, offices, factories."In the 1880s, the Indians of the west were in despair, and the Ghost Dance movement was spreading from tribe to tribe. It was a grand magic act intended to bring a new world into existence via sacred song and dance. The dead would come back to life, the buffalo herds would return, the whites would get sent back home, and the civilized world would be rolled up like a dirty old carpet -- the cities, mines, farms, and factories. This would reveal a healthy unspoiled land, with many teepees and animals, as it once had been.Dancers were not allowed to possess things from the white world: liquor, guns, knives, kettles, or metal ornaments. They would dance for four days. Whites feared an armed uprising, so they attacked the dancers. Hundreds of unarmed Indians were murdered at the Wounded Knee massacre. The magic dancing did not succeed, but today many can see that a great healing is badly needed. Obviously, the madness cannot continue forever. Lame Deer was clear: "The machine will stop." He said that a young man would one day come who would know how to turn it off. "It won't be bad, doing without many things you are now used to, things taken out of the earth and wasted foolishly." We will have to learn how to live more simply, and this will be good for one and all.Lame Deer asked Richard Erdoes to help write his story, to pass along important information. He included several chapters describing the sacred culture of the Lakota. He wanted hold up a mirror for us, to give us a different perspective, to feed a sane voice into our lost and confused world. "We must try to save the white man from himself. This can be done if only all of us, Indians and non-Indians alike, can once again see ourselves as part of this earth."Richard Adrian ReeseAuthor of What Is Sustainable

I'm rereading this book now for about the 5th time. I read it for an anthropology class about 15 years ago and it was so compelling that I reread it, recommended it to friends and then ultimately lent it to a friend who was going through an existential crisis who needed it so badly she kept it. It's profound without intending to be. It's simply about this man "Lame Deer" who is the last of a generation of Lakota Natives to learn about their traditions and values. You feel his lament for the rapidly dying culture while relishing in its beauty. This book will make you want to reconnect with whatever you hold dear and give up pursuit of meaningless things.

Lame Deer Seeker of VisionsI highly recommend this book describing the life of John Lame Deer if you are interested in the history of Native Americans or their view of The United States. These are the memoirs of Lame Deer that he worked on with Richard Erdoes. Lame Deer describes how Native Americans dealt with whites taking their land through lies and massacres. He also describes trying to keep his culture alive. We, the reader, are taken to Native American ceremonies. We are shown what happens and why. Lame Deer also explains how they have changed through whites interference. To me, this book also gives the best description of how Native American people are connected to the land.We also get the long life of Lame Deer. That guy lived quite a life. From criminal to Medicine Man, Lame Deer gives us frank description of all points in his life. For me, the descriptions of the ceremonies and the myths behind them got a little tedious, but yet it is important to have a complete description of them. This book is a good reminder that the history of Native Americans is not over. It continues as does their battles for their sacred lands. As a dominant culture we have a tendency to think, we have to move on. That is the past. This book describes how Native Americans are trying to do this, but their ancestors were massacred. They were not even allowed to keep their culture. It was taken from them at gun point.

According to the great John (Fire) Lame Deer, the eating of guts evolved into a contest. “In the old days we used to eat the guts of the buffalo, making a contest of it, two fellows getting hold of a long piece of intestines from opposite ends, starting chewing toward the middle, seeing who can get there first; that’s eating. Those buffalo guts, full of half-fermented, half-digested grass and herbs, you didn’t need any pills and vitamins when you swallowed those.”So much more than a book...

I originally read this book back in the 70's and purchased it for my goddaughter to read. As a refresher, I went through it again before sending it on to her. Lame Deer's sense of humor alone makes the book well worth reading. His insight to things is wonderful and his explanation of what he believes as a Medicine Man is fascinating. What really struck me, after studying Greek Mythology and going through the Illiad and the Odyssey is how man has distanced himself from nature as a result of monotheism versus polytheism. In the latter there was a god for everything, which caused the believers to have respect for the things that those gods represented. If nothing else, it taught, as Lame Deer explains, that man is not separate from, but an integral part of nature, yet we have come to lose our respect for it. We treat it as though it is our servant and that the relationship is no longer one, but now quite separated. The sense of interdependence has waned considerably. The book is an easy read as far as time spent reading it. It is the thinking and reflecting you will be doing afterward that will be your reward for having read it.

Introduction Welcome to a Skit Book for Every Group! Sure, skits are a great idea for youth ministry. They make learning active and visual. They build relationships as kids learn to work together. They brighten meetings with humor while driving home important points. But only if your kids can act. If your group is like most-that is, if it's not composed entirely of drama-club presidents and speech-team captains-your experiences with skits may be nothing to write home about. If some of your kids are 'theatrically challenged," you may find yourself avoiding skits entirely or using the same few talented kids again and again. Your dilemma: Should you keep less skilled members of your group off the stage, making them feel left out? Or should you use everybody and limp through some ineffective and embarrassing efforts? There's a better way, you know-goof-proof skits. First there was the popular Goof-Proof Skits for Youth Ministry. And now, to keep your store of sure-fire scripts full, here's volume 2! Real Fun, Real Truths-for Real Kids. What do you want in a skit? Fun? It's here-from pratfalls to parables to TV show parodies. Solid, Bible-based messages? They're here, too-on important topics, including decision-making, violence, and inviting others to the group. But you get more than sound messages and plenty of fun with Goof-Proof Skits for Youth Ministry 2. You get help to make each skit work. Every script in this book has been prepared with real kids in mind. You'll find no page-long speeches to stumble through, no delicate emotional nuances to steamroll, no split-second timing to fumble. The language is simple, and the feelings are straightforward. Best of all, Goof-Proof Skits for Youth Ministry 2 gives you innovative cues to help you draw the best possible reading-and the most meaning-from every line of dialogue. Every script provides simple facial-expression symbols to show kids instantly how to put the right feeling into each line. To help beat the "monotone syndrome" and ensure that everyone catches key concepts, words that should be spoken with emphasis are set in capital letters. The result? Skits that build confidence. Skits that let you cast practically anybody. Skits that cut mistakes to a minimum so that the message can't miss. Skits that work in any group-dramatically inclined or not. Goof-Proof Skits for Youth Ministry 2 may not turn your kids into Tony award winners. But when it comes to getting all your kids involved-and getting the message across ungarbled-you'll find no better or easier way than with this series of resources. Use this book in your youth meetings, retreats, Sunday school, Bible studies, or worship services-with or without rehearsal-whenever you want to make a point in a fresh, funny, memorable way. With each script, you'll find Scriptures to study, a relevant topic to explore, easy setup ideas, thought-provoking discussion questions, and optional extras. You'll find so much, in fact, that you can turn each skit into a complete youth group session of its own-if you want to. And After the Skit? Youth ministry doesn't end when the skit's over-so the skits in this book don't end there either. You can take advantage of the discussion questions in the "For Post-Play Pondering" section to help your kids dig deeper into the skit topics. As you lead kids in post-play pondering, remember that variety and interaction help make discussions exciting for teenagers. Use large groups, small groups, pairs, and trios. Or have kids number off from one to five, then have all the ones respond to the first question, all the twos respond to the second, and so on. Or have kids write their own questions about the topic based on what they saw in the skit. The possibilities are almost endless! A great skit can be one of your most powerful tools for helping teenagers grow in faith-if it works. The goof-proof skits and post-play ponderings in this book are your chance to get more of that dramatic power off the page-and into the hearts of your group members.

I love these skits and so do the kids. I have mainly used them at summer Bible camp. They can be hilarious and teaching a Bible story at the same time. Good with 2nd graders through college.

Good skit suggestions.

Really good book for puppet skits.

I bought this for my 10-year-old daughter on the recommendation of her pediatrician who said it is good to provide books that address the development of girls and boys. However, after reading it, I am sending it back for a few reasons. I'll name two. Firstly, it ties development too closely to certain ages. It has a chart with stages of development that shows that girls who are 8 - 10 have not started developing. My daughter started developing when she was 8 and seeing this chart is likely to make her feel more uncomfortable about developing early. The text mentions that changes can happen earlier or later but the chart speaks loudly for itself. Secondly, the discussion of breast development, addressed to girls, indicates, "...breasts help you look pretty good. Boys and men like them a lot, and quite right too." I am confident that my daughter, who has no interest in boys at the moment, would be horrified to hear that boys like her breasts a lot. And my daughter's breasts are just that, her breasts - not objects to provide pleasure to the boys and men around her. And couldn't the male author have found a female physician to weigh in on menstruation instead of Dr. Earl Cooperman who advises girls to "accept the discomforts of menses (the period) as a small inconvenient fact of life"? I'd like my daughter to develop opinions about her body outside the influence of how boys and men think about it. So, I worry that this book is likely to create rather than alleviate anxiety in my daughter about her developing body. I also feel that, as indicated above, it sometimes provides an outdated male-centric perspective on the female body.

My advice is to always read everything before you give it to your children. This book might be ok for you, but I didn't like it. I teach biology, and thought this book was a little goofy. I was also pretty turned off when "...breasts help you look pretty good. Boys and men like them a lot, and quite right too." showed up in there. Really? I guess at this stage, I would personally lean toward basing kids' knowledge in a more scientific account of what's going on and let my son figure out on his own how he feels about breasts, and down the line, my daughter doesn't need a book that is supposed to be a valuable resource telling her that breasts are there to help her look pretty. I mean - shouldn't we focus on their actual purpose at some point? *ughI ended up giving something else to my son to read.

This was much more explicit in the pictures than I anticipated. I was told that it was appropriate for a 9yo girl, but I don't think so.

By far my favorite!!! I read their other famous book “Where Did I Come From” when I was a child and have been using it to teach our own children. I love the anatomically correct cartoon drawings of the little chubby people so it totally lightens the feel in the room when our child and I giggle together over the drawings, but the words are all still very true and straight to the point. EXCELLENT book that still works in today’s society just as well as it did in the 1970s!

A wonderful book and I'm so glad we bought it for our nine year old son. We did quite a bit of research to pick the best book for him and this seemed to be a perfect fit for what we wanted to discuss and our desired level of openness. We weren't dissapointed and our son has really been enjoying doing some reading and asking us questions. I was worried that it would be outdated but I think it's still a great book on the basics for his age level.

It can be tough to talk to your parents about the changes happening in your body. This book is AWESOME for helping a kid starting puberty understand what is happening to their body and that it is NORMAL. Highly recommend

Every child/tween/teen should have this book to read and, hopefully, talk about with a caring parent. My children had this book and it's companion for younger kids, and these copies were gifts to our grandchildren. I cannot recommend them highly enough. And they're delightfully illustrated, helping to lighten the birds and the bees discussion!

If you have a daughter, this is the book to buy and let your child grow without surprises. I highly recommend this book for parents who have daughters.

Readers looking for a deeper understanding of the rise and fall of Fannie Mae will find a crisp account of the past seven decades of that organization's highlights and lowlights in James R. Hagerty's book, The Fateful History of Fannie Mae: New Deal Birth to Mortgage Crisis Fall. Bob Hagerty is a reporter for The Wall Street Journal who has covered the mortgage business and the government sponsored enterprises (GSEs) extensively. He relates how a public purpose was paired with private capital to create a quasi-governmental entity that became the largest holder of residential mortgage debt. Political machinations over many years led to inadequate capital and a weak regulatory framework. Investors took gains in the good years and taxpayers are now covering losses. I worked at Freddie Mac from the mid-1970s to the late-1990s, so I know the subject of this book from an inside perspective. Hagerty gets all the headlines right in this book. There is more to each story than what he presents, but those nuances may be meaningful only to those who were immersed in the business. General readers will find in this book a cogent presentation of how Fannie Mae came to be, to grow and to generate huge losses. Any reader with an interest in public policy, especially relating to housing, will enjoy reading this book.Rating: Three-star (Recommended)

Books on current events and their issues tend to fall into two categories. One is academic, with the author exploring various hypotheses, usually favoring one, and doing so by presenting a good deal of data, often quantitative and often in tabular or graphic form. Such a book is usually organized thematically. The other type is journalistic, usually presenting a chronological narrative, with emphasis on the words and actions of a few key decisionmakers at each step in the narrative. Each has its merits and shortcomings. This book is a perfect example of the latter category. The author, a Wall Street Journal reporter who appears to have covered Fannie Mae for many years, has a firm command of the subject, a good perspective that enables him to distinguish myth from fact, and, as far as I can tell, has carried out his research and writing with the high standards you would expect a veteran of an elite news organization. There aren't any anonymous sources, reporting is separated from opinion quite overtly, multiple perspectives on the truth are noted, and so forth. The history of Fannie Mae is told crisply and in straightforward chronological fashion, in a Dragnet-style, "just the facts, ma'am" authorial voice. Each chapter tends, although not exclusively, to focus on a few key decisionmakers or other persons of influence and tells the story by reference to their decisions and statements. It is very similar to the kind of journalism that is done all the time for a daily paper like the WSJ. Sentences are short and rarely complex. So as an example of a journalistic account of the history of Fannie, it is a very good product.Of course that type of product has its limitations. The book is aware of the major issues surrounding the GSE's but touches on them only lightly until the end, when a couple of relatively brief chapters explore them and the major perspectives on them. If I were looking for a definitive analysis, this doesn't strike me as that book. For that, I recommend Guaranteed to Fail and Engineering the Financial Crisis. I don't think this book leaves anything out entirely, but Things that it underplays include, imo: (1) the extent to which the public policy mission of the GSE's drove/rationalized the fatal decision to expand into lower quality mortgages in the 05-08 time period, a motivation which was heavily emphasized in the company's conference calls with investors, investor materials and legislative oversight (whether you believe it was sincere or not); (2) insight into the reasons for the company's undercapitalization, particularly the extent to which the combination of the implicit federal guarantee and favorable bank capital regulations under BASEL egregiously incentivized the worldwide financial system to take up GSE paper and GSE-backed debt, without regard to the underlying deterioration of its financial condition, enabling a much higher leverage ratio than a private actor subject to market forces would have had, with cataclysmic results; and (3) how the mission I mention in "(1)" is linked to the undercapitalization I mention in "(2" by way of the federal guarantee: it had that guarantee because of its mission to acquire an ever-increasing mortgage portfolio, but that guarantee enabled it to fulfill that mission entirely through debt financing, leaving it woefully undercapitalized once it grew too big.But as I note above such shortcomings are inherent in the genre. Overall, it is a very good product of its type. As a final note, I was impressed by the fact that some of the favorable reviews here come from persons with knowledge of the facts who are willing to give their real name regarding this controversial topic.

Interesting and well-written analysis of one of the causes of the mortgage crisis that held my attention throughout. The author takes you back to the 30's and the origin of the modern concept of home mortgages, through the current economic melt-down. This was a quick read and I have to say that by the end I think I had a much better understanding of what Fannie Mae is (and does), why the current mortgage crisis happened the way it did, and such basis matters as how mortgage rates are determined. Surprising to learn that so many of the policies that define home loans seem to have been tied to the personalities and personal quirks of the executives and government officials at the top of the mortgage industry. You can tell Hagerty is an experienced journalist: his writing is clear and concise, east-to-understand, with a sense of humor. Fascinating book. Kind of frightening too, especially if you own a home.

Thought provoking.

Ive been a Stephen King fan for 40 years. The Stand is and will remain my favorite of his books. I like all of them but I love a select few and The Stand is at the top of the list. If you are already a King fan and you haven't read The Stand, you'll love this book. The overall theme is Biblically related and he sticks close to details in well known Biblical stories. But, don't get me wrong, this is not "Christian Fiction". This is the best of Sci-Fi/Horror you'll find in King's books. The characters are fully developed and totally interesting. The dystopian story is compelling and believable. If you are a fan, since this is one of his earlier works, you'll see familiar types of characters, ie..Randy Flagg and Tom Collin. If you're a new King reader, you will get to know the characters and you'll care about them. This isn't a read in one sitting book. Rather, it is a day after day reading that you'll enjoy and hate to put down. Though some may say King is extremely verbose, I think his detailed telling of the story connects the reader to the characters like very few authors are able to do. This is my sixth reading of the book and the first time I listened to the audio book. It was just as good this time as the last. With a hour long ride to work and back, my time in the car seemed shorter because of the quality of the reader and the quality of the story.I won't give away anything, I'll only say take your time and enjoy the ride with King's epic. I loved every word.

I have a long commute to/from the office, so I wanted something nice and long to focus my attention on while riding the bus. The Stand is a classic that has stood the test of time. The audiobook is well read/acted without going over the top.I read the edited version when it first came out, and devoured the unabridged version when it was released a few years later. However, it wasn't until I was listening to the book that I realized why it is so engaging and captures the imagination. Not only is it one of King's most well-written works, it is also one of his most poetic. His ability to describe the most disgusting situations is unquestioned in any King book. However, in The Stand, he is able to describe elements of emotion in such a way that one is enraptured and engaged on a completely different level than you'd expect. I think this book stands (pun not intended) as King's finest work. Even if you've read the book, do yourself the favor of 'listening' to it as well. You won't regret it.

The Stand was epic in its original form, and this edition, with expanded story lines and restored cuts lives up to the original. All of Stephen King's books are excellent, but this one is a parable for modern times of the age-old battle between good and evil. Read it again if you have read it before. And if you have never read it, be assured: this is a book you will never forget! I found myself cheering as favorite characters came into the story, and even though I knew the ending, I read faithfully onward through days and nights to the very end. I am not sure how many times I have read this book now--a dozen times? More? Yet, I know I will read it again in the future. It is not "The Good Book" but it is A Good Book, and a very good book, indeed! A+ +

While repairing my mother's Kindle, I noticed that she had a copy of The Stand installed, and after the repair was done, I felt kind of a duty to test the repair by reading a bit of her copy. My experience was that I wound up buying a copy for my own Kindle, and then spent an entirely inappropriate amount of my waking hours reading it.It's totally engrossing, and very interesting in enough different ways that you just don't get tired of working your way through all those damn pages. A great premise, great plot development, interesting and believable characters, and a scope that constantly reminds how transient we all are. Great stuff that got ME so involved that when I went to hospital for a relatively normal visit, I was ACUTELY aware of everyone who coughed or sneezed, and though I snickered at myself almost immediately for my temporary transportation from reality to plot, the snicker wasn't quite as immediately convincing as it might have been. So, yeah, it was THAT engrossing.

This story is incredible. Five stars over and over again. The reason for this bad review is the defective binding. I bought this book a few months ago and just started reading it last month. Ever since I opened the book, the pages have been falling and peeling out. I’ve been trying to tape the pages back in, but more and more fall out when I read. I spoke with a customer service agent who didn’t once apologize for the defective product, but rather asked if I was aware of the return date. When I said I wasn’t trying to return, but would merely like a replacement book, after making me wait, she said she would make an exception and send me a replacement. I’m grateful to be getting a replacement, but this isn’t the service I’m used to getting from Amazon. Amazon really needs to take a hard look at the suppliers for this book. Obviously there is some sort of quality control issue here.

Its a long ride but well worth it. Clocking in at some 1,200 pages this book can be very intimidating. Stephen King paints a picture of a plague infested world and the events that conspire after the survivors are left. In it you get to know a couple handfuls of people, their lives, their passions, how they survived Captain Trips and how they grow and change throughout the book. There are times when Stephen Kings backstory for every character can be a bit drawn out, but I find in the end you're glad you knew those things about that character. You truly get to know the people in this book you appreciate that looking back some 500 pages ago. Look at where they are now. Look how they've change. Its one of the best books I've read in terms of character development. The story is just as good as well, hooking you in with a vision of what would happen if a super virus hit, the fallout from said super virus, how savage people can become, how we try to rebuild and how theres a dark wizard lurking about in people dreams, gathering people together, building an army, planning a war.

So this is set some 20 years after the Kong Skull Island movie. First the good: the artwork is great and much better than the Godzilla Awakening prequel comic in my opinion. The artist captures the look and feel of the island, characters, and monsters (especially Kong) perfectly with a much more realistic style than the Godzilla prequel. Secondly the bad: where to begin? I was expecting an update on Kong 20 plus years later. What the story seems to do is rehash what we already know from the movie regarding Kong, the tribe living there, and the monsters. It does introduce some monsters that were not in the movie but they play a very small role. The plot device for going back in time and seeing how Kong came to be and the fate of his species is just too weak to consider in my mind. It almost seems they are trying not to add anything that the movie has not already dealt with. I thought this would be a great opportunity regarding what the Monarch agency has found out about other monsters as we are teased at the end of the Skull Island movie. No. We know that Kong will face Godzilla in 2020. I thought we would see how Kong might be growing to become a real threat against Godzilla (Kong is about 100 feet and Godzilla is over 300 feet based on the info from the movies). No. As I said other than a really weak plot device to find out about Kong's past we really don't learn anything new at all - even from the Monarch files included in the end of the book - The official Movie website has more information than this story or the information in the special features of the Blu-ray of Kong Skull Island. That's why I was so disappointed with this - except for the great artwork. It doesn't really carry anything beyond the movie. If this series is a setup for a follow up regarding Kong and that does address the topics above then maybe it will be a sub-part of the bigger story - but as a stand alone story (especially if this is all that will be produced before Godzilla King of the Monsters in 2019) then the reader will miss nothing by skipping this graphic novel entirely (except for the great art). Normally I am not so negative but with the Blu-ray features and what those hinted at in the Kong movie I was expecting a lot more and simply it is not there.

*SPOILER FREE*This is interesting because it labels itself as a prequel, but most of the events of the story takes place 20 years after the events of the movie. The "prequel" parts are flashbacks of sorts. The story itself didn't reveal a whole lot to quite justify it's length, but it was still interesting nonetheless. The back of it has some "extra files" describing all the "animals" on the island, including some that dont show up in the movie or comic. The pictures themselves seemed a little difficult to pick out details. I'm not sure if it's the material it is printed on, a lack of contrast in the art, or I'm just not used to it.

Comic jumps around so much and has so many inconsistencies that I kept thinking that I accidentally missed a page. Nope terrible writing. There is a bestiary in the back that is kind of cool. But there is literally a copy and paste error there. A log has the last two lines of a bug monster's description copied and pasted into it. It's not even a full sentence copied. A sentence ends and then a half sentence begins. It clearly wasn't supposed to be there

To get the full monsterverse experience you might want this but you don’t necessarily need this. Kong himself doesn’t have much of a part which is why it only gets four stars but the monster profiles in the back are neat and really help expand skull island.

It is a graphic novel. If you could call it a novel, more like a comic book. Very disappointed. Way overpriced for what it was. It really didn’t answer anything and it had these visions that we’re just assumable activities.

Good midquel/prequel/sequel story, wonder how much of it actually carries over into the movies though

I'd give 4-1/2 stars for the writers grammatical errors. Otherwise I enjoyed this. The story was "pretty good" and I liked the artwork.

It was a gift they loved it.
