I throughly enjoyed this book; it's attention to detail and the information contained within it's pages made for a unique glimpse into the world of Porsche.If you have an interest in Porsche, Formula 1, racing or automobiles in general this is an exceptional read. There are a number of truly distinctive stories as well as a number of amazing photographs.I had a wonderful time reading this book and recommend it highly !!

In the historical fiction book Beware, Princess Elizabeth, by Carolyn Meyer, the theme is to persevere against all odds. This book takes place in the 1500's in London, England and the outskirts of London. The titular protagonist is a teenage Princess Elizabeth, who is a bit of a rebel, and the future queen of England. After her father, King Henry VIII dies, his last wife dies, and finally her half brother dies, the kingdom of England is left in the hands of Elizabeth's sister Mary. Mary is the daughter of King Henry's first wife, who hated Elizabeth's mother, Anne Boleyn, and therefore, hates Elizabeth. Under Mary's rule, Elizabeth is in constant danger, forced to convert to Catholicism, and is put under arrest in the Tower of London. After countless betrayals, repeated imprisonments, and being treated like a common peasant, she still ascends the throne, but not after a long and painful journey to get there.While this book is aimed more towards girls, with its protagonist being a princess, it still has the adventure, beheadings, and various other elements that could make it appealing to boys as well. This is a really good book, and shows an insight to one of England's greatest monarch's days before she was queen. It also shows how little those of stature cared for each other. After her father's death, Elizabeth remembers the death of her father's fifth wife: "My mother was not the only wife my father sent to the Tower and then had put to death. I was eight years old when his fifth, Catherine Howard, was sentenced to die. All the nervous excitement of this latest execution could not be kept from me, and it was as if my own mother's execution were being repeated. I wept, I cried out, for days I could neither sleep nor eat. Kat, frantic to calm me, summoned the court physician to prescribe a sleeping drought. When I awoke it was over. I listened as servants whispered how Catherine Howard's head had been caught in a basket, her blood sopped up by crones with handkerchiefs, her body carried off for burial. The way it must have been for my mother, I thought, and I have thought of it many times since that day. Remembering Catherine Howard's death has always struck terror to my heart." (17-18.) This is an example of how ruthless the monarchs were at this point, and how even eight year old Elizabeth could be in danger. It also shows how empathetic Elizabeth is, even when thinking of the woman who faced the own doom as her own mother. This story is a lot like other stories of women in power at this time. Elizabeth is forced to persevere against the odds that she faces, and these odds are only increased by her gender. This book is a fantastic read for anyone who loves adventure and a bit of a history lesson at the same time.

We all know who Elizabeth I is; Gloriana, the Virgin Queen, the last of the Tudor monarchs. But underneath all the powder and the wigs, who was this woman? How did Elizabeth Tudor go from the scared cub of a lion to as ferocious as the lion himself?The book starts off with Henry's death, declaring weakling Edward as king. From there we get to see Elizabeth's life (albeit a PG-13 version) unfold; all the major events of her life are covered, such as Thomas Seymour's failed flirations, the Wyatt Rebellion, and her incarceration in the tower. Unfortunately, as most of Carolyn Meyer's Young Royals books do, the book ends before Elizabeth begins her reign. I suppose the purpose of these books is to focus on the familiar royal characters in their younger years and nothing more. I still wish that some of these books would at least cover the first year of he specific royal woman's reign, to show you how things started off for them once they took the throne.I myself am an adult who enjoys adding Tudor books to her collection, and this is definitely a worthy addition. It's perfect if you have a young person who has an interest in history, or is looking for a strong female role model.

Carolyn Meyer paints a wonderful picture of what Elizabeth's teenage years must have been like. This narrative, a historical fiction, tells of Elizabeth Tudor's years after her brother Edward's death and into her elder half-sister's reign. The rebellions and suspicions cast upon Elizabeth put her life in terrible danger, sending her to the tower where her mother was executed years earlier. It's a great book, especially for those of you guys and gals that loved Elizabeth I: Red Rose of the House of Tudor, England, 1544 (The Royal Diaries), this one is more geared towards the young adult market with its language and content. However, this novel doesn't focus on Elizabeth's romantic escapades like some novels do, just her struggle to maintain her faith and her life under her sister's ever watchful gaze. It is a great book, and I highly recommend it. :)

I wish the book extended into the early days of Elizabeth's reign. It offers insight into the brutal natural of royal siblings' interactions and the fight for power rising above and destroying the potential for any sense of family

The reign of Queen Elizabeth I was a golden age for England. I've always wanted to get past the history books and get a glimpse into what life would have been like for Elizabeth as a young girl. After all, she was the daughter of Henry VIII and the fallen Anne Boleyn. Life couldn't have been easy for her after her mother was executed, I kept thinking. Questions pounded through my head, one by one: How could such a young girl live through such a time? How did she cope with being the younger, supposedly "illegitimate" daughter of Henry VIII? How did she feel about being the daughter of a woman believed to be one of the worst of sinners?This book is woven with spellbinding magic, telling the story of a young girl and her struggle not only to be Queen of England, but also to be known, and I quote, "not for my (Elizabeth's) father (Henry VIII), or my mother (Anne Boleyn), or my sister (Queen Mary I of England, also Bloody Mary), but for myself (Elizabeth)."

Another great effort by Carolyn Meyers. Written from a framework of recorded history, but it is what "might have been" or what some other authors wrote. The history is accurate, but the personalities? Surely they were different then, and their lives were only what we might imagine. Elizabeth lived through the tribulations and was a long admired Queen. Her story is told here with flourish and class. Ms. Meyers has done it again, produced another historical fiction tale that will help many to understand a little better. It is a joy to read!

I absolutely love Carolyn Meyer and her writing style. I love how all of her books give you a personal first-hand look at these historical women and the challenges they faced.

I bought a stack of "Art of" books for one of my design classes to share with my students. This one (with Tangled a close second) is by far the best in terms of the design process. Lots about the research, the preliminary design work, and the iterations of the process made it useful as well as lovely. So many of these books are just a collection of final concept art an stills from the movie. Nice, but not enlightening. This book goes much deeper into the process.

I went into "Brave" fairly skeptical. It didn't look like the kind of movie I would normally watch, but then it was made by Pixar so that made me curious. Then, my teenage son saw it with a friend and said he thought I would enjoy it. I went, and he was right!The visuals in the movie are stunning and the story is fantastic. As a family, we all appreciated the message about listening to each other.This book, then, is a wonderful companion as it shows the artwork of the movie and the pre-production artwork that was developed over the years that it took to make the movie. As a wanna-be artist myself, I like books like this anyway, but I especially appreciated how this book showed the interaction of how the art and the characters progressed. Characters grew and then the art would change accordingly, or the art would change and the character would grow to match.

I have a ton of these books. I wanted to get this one because I loved the animation of the movie, and wanted to see the process. It was interesting to see the pre design character sketches of Merida. This book has a lot of character sketches, but only a few of each character. It has the background designs, and info about the process of the movie. It wasn't my favorite book of the art of Disney books, but it is still a good one. I just wish there was more sketches instead of digital drawings. Overall if you love the art of Disney books, are into drawing, loved the movie, or have a career in art then you would enjoy this book!

I love all the "Art of..." books! It's full of wonderful sketches and concept art for each character and environments. I collect these as inspiration and technique studies for my own artwork. A great gift for an aspiring artist or anyone to liked the movie!

Just like the movie, the book's color scheme is pretty dark which is a great contrast to the other 'Art of' books that I own (Moana, Big Hero 6). I'm really satisfied with the stunning quality and resolution of the art. There's a ton of really interesting facts about the movie and making of too!!

This book was so much bigger and heavier than I thought it would be.The detail on the pages is amazing, and the artwork is genuinely beautiful.I would definitely recommend this book for any disney fan.I also want to give Kudos to amazon for shipping this to my home within 1 day as I requested.I really needed it for a birthday gift and it arrived on time, I'm so grateful for 1 day shipping!!

The artistry and story of this movie moved me from the first moments, so I knew I needed this book when I saw it. I'm so pleased with it. The sketches and commentary compliment the movie so well. The one thing I would change about it is having the picture that's on the dust cover actually being on the cover, but that's because I'm not a fan of dust covers. Lovely book, though! I must have for Brave fans!

Beautiful book, I love having it on my coffee table to look through. I got it with the Pixar 25th anniversary color scripts and Wreck-it-Ralph art books.

Purchase of this item does not include the access code that enables testing etc for classes.The Amazon page for this book goes on and on about the functions of the software but my searches have so far yielded nothing about the exclusion of an access code, its not even a suggested purchase.The book itself is great, very helpful, and arrived in excellent condition. The book itself is still very useful and I would encourage pretty much anyone to check it out and improve your working knowledge of office.I hate to do this but In giving it 1 star until they update the page to explicitly state that a purchase include only the text.

I am very dissatisfied with this product. Not with the textbook itself, but with Amazon's service. For your information, you will get the ebook via kindle. It is not available to be read via kindle cloud reader, and you will have to download the app. Ordering an ebook from any other site is much easier and simpler. I have never had as much frustration as I am having now. I am having my own issues that prevent me from downloading the app on my laptop. Therefore, I do not have access to the book and cannot do any of the assignments I need to do.

Thorough and clear step by step instructions are great for the person who learns by doing. Lots of helpful "Why are we doing this" segments to help the learner to not only get the procedure, but the reason for approaching the problem the way it is addressed in the book. Alternate suggestions on how different scenarios could also be solved are discussed to help the learner think about alternate ways to do things and avoids appearing that there is "one best way" to do anything in Office. Except, of course, where there really is only one way to do something. :) I've read a lot of tech books and this is definitely worthy of 6 stars if available.

The concepts of heavens and hell. he talks about the earth and in many different aspects. Many things that people take as Christian values do not seem to be the case after reading this book. It sheds a light on the many aspects of our belief system, spirituality etc. Must read if you want to have a better understanding of Christianity and its roots. This book contains; before Socrates' trial, his trial and after his trial.

The Last Days of Socrates is a essential reading for anyone with an interest in philosophy or Western culture. What I find so amazing about and most ancient philosophy is that the questions it raises are still relevant today. For those readers not familiar with Plato, the author of the four dialogues that make up the book, he lived during the fourth century BC. Plato is credited with founding the Academy in Athens, which was essentially the first institution devoted to philosophical research and teaching. Many scholars claim it was the prototype of all Western universities.It's interesting to note that, Plato was a student of Socrates. And much like Jesus Christ, we have no written documents from Socrates himself. Strangely, this isn't the only similarity between Socrates and Jesus Christ either. Whatever the reason, it seems that many people in modern society believe that the philosophy of the ancients is not relevant to them. I believe the contrary and I'm not sure we're any wiser in the modern era. In fact, I'm quite sure that we aren't. Yes, technology has changed, but life's most important questions have not. And we still don't have answers to them. If anything, there are more distractions and noise that keep us from pondering the mysteries of life today.Anyway, this book is a collection of four early Socratic dialogues: "Euthyphro," "Apology," "Crito," and "Phaedo." Translator Harold Tarrant explains in his introduction that most scholars do not believe the events depicted by Plato actually happened, but rather, they are Plato's depiction of Socratic philosophy in action. It's also worth noting that the Socratic dialogues were not unique to Plato.In the "Euthyphro", Plato writes: "Consider the following point: is the holy approved by the gods because it's holy, or is it holy because it's approved?" This dialogue essentially examines Socrates' questioning of religion, more specifically, holiness or piety. Holiness was one of five Greek virtues. It seems that the purpose of the dialogue is to explore the definitions of holiness by asking the difficult questions. We are left to consider whether Socratic doubt is more truthful and more valuable than unreasoned religious dogmatism. "The question which excites the Socratic mind is how anybody, man or god, can recognize any action as an instance of goodness. What is the standard, and in what terms can we express it?" On that question it must be said that "Euthyphro" fails to provide an answer that suffices.In the "Apology", Plato writes: "It is because they enjoy hearing me examine those who think that they are wise when they are not; an experience which has its amusing side." The classic scenario in a Greek tragedy is when a person of high moral principle is confronted step by step with a bad situation from which there is no escape, oftentimes through a conflict with people of lower moral principles. As the "Apology" demonstrates, the art of writing a tragedy was not lost on Plato.The "Apology", then, is Socrates' self-defense at his trial. Socrates, using his rhetorical skills, talks of the ills apparent in the Athenian government. According to Plato, Socrates did not live an ordinary and quiet life. He didn't care for the things that most people care about: making money, a comfortable home, high status, and political appointments. He certainly was not afraid of dying. As he said, "Nothing can harm a good man either in life or after death, and his fortunes are not a matter of indifference to the gods."Socrates supposedly said: "It is only too likely that neither of us has any knowledge to boast of; but he thinks he knows something which he does not know, whereas I am quite conscious of my ignorance. At any rate it seems that I am wiser than he is to the small extent, that I do not think that I know what I don't know." Accordingly, this book really ought to be read by anyone seeking a liberal education.

As Socrates abstained from recording his philosophies, we must thank Plato for having the insight to preserve Socratic thoughts for posterity. As a student of Socrates, it seems that Plato, through his own writings, attempts to preserve the memory of his well respected teacher.In The Last Days of Socrates, Plato begins with Euthyphro and we see the Socratic method in action. Socrates and Euthyphro discuss the nature of piety, and through a serious of thought provoking questions, Socrates argues for what he feels is the proper relationship between Man and God.Next, Plato discusses the trial of Socrates by the Athenian aristocracy. Again, we see Socrates using his rhetorical skills in illustrating the hypocrisy and prejudice pervading throughout the Athenian government. Socrates discusses what role a good citizen should play in government. He announces his being a "gadfly" on the hide of the establishment, and we also find Socrates exposing his own intelligence by claiming that he, in fact, knows very little. The Apology is by far my personal favorite section of the book.After Socrates conviction, we find him discussing the morality of obeying or breaking laws in Crito. He meets with one of his close friends and the two discuss Socrates' options in regard to his death sentence. Here we see Socrates espouse the belief that it is acceptable to break an unjust law, however, one must also accept the consequences for breaking said law in order to preserve the stability of society.The Last Days of Socrates tackles many complex issues which are as relevant today as they were when first committed to paper in the 4th century B.C. This should be standard reading for any introductory course in political theory, and a must have for anyone interested in philosophy or ethics.
