Overall, I am very, very pleased with this purchase. The conversation in the introduction is really fascinating, and it's fun to see how the actors used the writing and made little changes in the creation of their characters. I wish there was more than just one story board sequence for each film, but that's hardly worth complaining about.What prevents me from giving a five-star review is that the scripts are incomplete. In various places, the text "SCENE OMITTED" appears, letting the reader know that this isn't truly the COMPLETE screenplays, as the title states. It seems to be scenes that were deleted from the final film were left out of the printing, even when they appeared on the DVD/BluRay special features. That's really disappointing.

I found this to be an interesting addendum to the vast volume of work already out there that claims to analyse Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. The extended interview with the Nolan brothers at the beginning is extremely interesting reading, especially when commenting on the links that have been made between The Dark Knight and the post-9/11 War on Terror.To boot, you get all the screenplays as well - an interesting read if you are a fan of the films and filmmaking in general.All in all, I would recommend this to anyone who has a high regard for Nolan, his work, and this trilogy of films in particular.

I had purchased this hoping there would be more - more insight some tidbit of background on characters, maybe some new scenes, but there was little if any of any of that. It does have a very interesting interview at the beginning that some may find helpful as it gets into the director's creative process, and some storyboards for each movie.Probably more of interest to screenwriters than a general reader. If all you want are the scripts - you will not be disappointed in the least.

Its amazing to think how much money the contents of this book has earned. It makes me slightly dizzy to think of all the money ive spent on seeing the movies, buying the movies, buying them again in blu ray, and all the merch i own.. I was hoping it would be like a case with 3 scripts inside of it but its just a big book with all the scripts back to back. Im an aspiring screen writer and once I finish reading this phone book I plan on eating it... to gain its power.

I read this book through three lenses: First and foremost, as someone who grew up in Lancaster, Ohio, and whose immediate family (siblings, nieces/nephews, parents) still live there. I visit at least three times per year. Second, I have concerns about the growing wage gap and looked for a book that, without being condescending or demeaning, showed why and how a man like Trump was elected President. Third and most personally, three immediate family members are represented in the book and I wanted to see what the author had to say about them. (He was very, and perhaps unfairly, unkind in one case.)My review: There was a great deal of financial and policy content that will lose many people – I had difficulty following along, and I’m somewhat familiar with the private equity model. Additionally, he surmises that “conservatives” are the problem, which is a generalization that will turn off anyone who believes differently. (I’m of the mindset that neither side has the best interest of people in mind, though Trump is uniquely dangerous for many reasons.) All of that said, there is a compelling case that runaway capitalism has not been good for our country. A position on which we are aligned – capitalism that does not work for the people, only for the wealthy needs to be reconsidered and given checks and balances.The most disappointing aspect of the book was the often-one-sided view from the perspective of drug abusers. There is a rampant drug problem in Lancaster, Ohio, and the author is right to acknowledge and talk about it. However, he missed any stories of the remaining middle class residents who are raising their children here. As someone noted, the story eventually felt like it should be titled, “Mark and his friends.”Overall it was interesting to read and I walked away with some new knowledge. There are stories I would like to see told about my home town and its people, so that readers with no experience in Lancaster will still see its richer fabric of stories; but even without this I would recommend the book.

This is a book that needed to be written. I lived this book in another state and in a different industry. You can't deny the facts. And the facts are that deregulation of the financial industry led to the destruction of America's industrial base for profit. For the destruction of communities and lives; what did the hedge fund and predatory capitalists get in return? Money. Short term profits..The America we live in today is the unintended consequences of what was perpetrated on us by greed over the last three decades. And we are poorer in every way.Thank you Mr. Alexander for your reporting and this excellent telling of what happened to so many hard working Americans across this country.

Amazing author and story. I'm a Business Econ graduate and felt I always believed in free trade etc. This story carefully lays out the disgusting evils of private equity and corporate raiders and their effect on average American communities. You will understand the why of the deindustrialization of America after reading this book.Mr. Topper I don't think it was a fair fight when Icahn and his lawyers rode into town. I don't lay much of the blame for any of this at your father's feet. No one in the town could have gone toe to toe and come out the other side in any better shape.

Many people have already reviewed this book, causing me to hesitate to add another. I will only point out a couple of disagreements I have with the other critics. Some of them are actually from the depressed community in which the book is set, and some of those were even approached by and/or spoke to the author. I lack the authority to question their judgments. My criticism is that the book cannot make up its mind whether it is an oral history or an indictment of the predatory capitalism of the Reagan era and beyond. Many reviewers disdained the economic analysis, but I found myself wanting more of that and less about the local citizens, or at least some of them, whose stories were not as compelling as the space devoted to them might suggest. Still, their voices are necessary and contribute something to understanding how things got as bad as the author perceives them to be. This is Trump country and, I predict, hoodwinked again by hedge fund managers and the like. "Sad," as the current occupant of the White House likes to say.

In the historical fiction book Beware, Princess Elizabeth, by Carolyn Meyer, the theme is to persevere against all odds. This book takes place in the 1500's in London, England and the outskirts of London. The titular protagonist is a teenage Princess Elizabeth, who is a bit of a rebel, and the future queen of England. After her father, King Henry VIII dies, his last wife dies, and finally her half brother dies, the kingdom of England is left in the hands of Elizabeth's sister Mary. Mary is the daughter of King Henry's first wife, who hated Elizabeth's mother, Anne Boleyn, and therefore, hates Elizabeth. Under Mary's rule, Elizabeth is in constant danger, forced to convert to Catholicism, and is put under arrest in the Tower of London. After countless betrayals, repeated imprisonments, and being treated like a common peasant, she still ascends the throne, but not after a long and painful journey to get there.While this book is aimed more towards girls, with its protagonist being a princess, it still has the adventure, beheadings, and various other elements that could make it appealing to boys as well. This is a really good book, and shows an insight to one of England's greatest monarch's days before she was queen. It also shows how little those of stature cared for each other. After her father's death, Elizabeth remembers the death of her father's fifth wife: "My mother was not the only wife my father sent to the Tower and then had put to death. I was eight years old when his fifth, Catherine Howard, was sentenced to die. All the nervous excitement of this latest execution could not be kept from me, and it was as if my own mother's execution were being repeated. I wept, I cried out, for days I could neither sleep nor eat. Kat, frantic to calm me, summoned the court physician to prescribe a sleeping drought. When I awoke it was over. I listened as servants whispered how Catherine Howard's head had been caught in a basket, her blood sopped up by crones with handkerchiefs, her body carried off for burial. The way it must have been for my mother, I thought, and I have thought of it many times since that day. Remembering Catherine Howard's death has always struck terror to my heart." (17-18.) This is an example of how ruthless the monarchs were at this point, and how even eight year old Elizabeth could be in danger. It also shows how empathetic Elizabeth is, even when thinking of the woman who faced the own doom as her own mother. This story is a lot like other stories of women in power at this time. Elizabeth is forced to persevere against the odds that she faces, and these odds are only increased by her gender. This book is a fantastic read for anyone who loves adventure and a bit of a history lesson at the same time.

We all know who Elizabeth I is; Gloriana, the Virgin Queen, the last of the Tudor monarchs. But underneath all the powder and the wigs, who was this woman? How did Elizabeth Tudor go from the scared cub of a lion to as ferocious as the lion himself?The book starts off with Henry's death, declaring weakling Edward as king. From there we get to see Elizabeth's life (albeit a PG-13 version) unfold; all the major events of her life are covered, such as Thomas Seymour's failed flirations, the Wyatt Rebellion, and her incarceration in the tower. Unfortunately, as most of Carolyn Meyer's Young Royals books do, the book ends before Elizabeth begins her reign. I suppose the purpose of these books is to focus on the familiar royal characters in their younger years and nothing more. I still wish that some of these books would at least cover the first year of he specific royal woman's reign, to show you how things started off for them once they took the throne.I myself am an adult who enjoys adding Tudor books to her collection, and this is definitely a worthy addition. It's perfect if you have a young person who has an interest in history, or is looking for a strong female role model.

Carolyn Meyer paints a wonderful picture of what Elizabeth's teenage years must have been like. This narrative, a historical fiction, tells of Elizabeth Tudor's years after her brother Edward's death and into her elder half-sister's reign. The rebellions and suspicions cast upon Elizabeth put her life in terrible danger, sending her to the tower where her mother was executed years earlier. It's a great book, especially for those of you guys and gals that loved Elizabeth I: Red Rose of the House of Tudor, England, 1544 (The Royal Diaries), this one is more geared towards the young adult market with its language and content. However, this novel doesn't focus on Elizabeth's romantic escapades like some novels do, just her struggle to maintain her faith and her life under her sister's ever watchful gaze. It is a great book, and I highly recommend it. :)

I wish the book extended into the early days of Elizabeth's reign. It offers insight into the brutal natural of royal siblings' interactions and the fight for power rising above and destroying the potential for any sense of family

The reign of Queen Elizabeth I was a golden age for England. I've always wanted to get past the history books and get a glimpse into what life would have been like for Elizabeth as a young girl. After all, she was the daughter of Henry VIII and the fallen Anne Boleyn. Life couldn't have been easy for her after her mother was executed, I kept thinking. Questions pounded through my head, one by one: How could such a young girl live through such a time? How did she cope with being the younger, supposedly "illegitimate" daughter of Henry VIII? How did she feel about being the daughter of a woman believed to be one of the worst of sinners?This book is woven with spellbinding magic, telling the story of a young girl and her struggle not only to be Queen of England, but also to be known, and I quote, "not for my (Elizabeth's) father (Henry VIII), or my mother (Anne Boleyn), or my sister (Queen Mary I of England, also Bloody Mary), but for myself (Elizabeth)."

Another great effort by Carolyn Meyers. Written from a framework of recorded history, but it is what "might have been" or what some other authors wrote. The history is accurate, but the personalities? Surely they were different then, and their lives were only what we might imagine. Elizabeth lived through the tribulations and was a long admired Queen. Her story is told here with flourish and class. Ms. Meyers has done it again, produced another historical fiction tale that will help many to understand a little better. It is a joy to read!

I absolutely love Carolyn Meyer and her writing style. I love how all of her books give you a personal first-hand look at these historical women and the challenges they faced.
