This is a big book for a baby. It is padded and sturdy, I don't think is going to brake any time soon. It has the picture and the word in English and Spanish. It is a good book to show and read to your kid to teach them words. I bought it for my nephew but he was only seven months and he didn't care for it. I don't know if his parents sit with him and read it. He liked more the book with touch and feel pages I also gave him with this book.

This would've been an excellent bilingual book but it has so many typos. How do I teach my son Spanish when you're telling him that socks are strawberries??!

Wow...I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this book !!! The book was bright, colorful and large. I bought it for a gift and had no idea how much fun it would add to the baby shower I was giving. My spanish speaking guests had fun laughing at us non-spanish speaking guests as we tried to figure out how to pronounce the spanish version of the words. LOL It gave us all a chance to bond and help each other learn new words...so I can confirm this book is great for adults to learn by also. ;-) My rating for the book is a solid 5 stars...but my rating for the packaging would not be. I would buy this book again if needed...but would want better packaging. The book was shipped in an over sized box without any paper, bubble wrap or packaging of any kind inside, allowing the book to slide around in the box during shipping and denting the edges of the book in like an accordion. This was not the sellers fault as they are not the ones that shipped it, Amazon did, so I did not knock any stars off for the shipping issues as I am rating the book and seller and see no reason to ding them for something out of their control.

My 20 month old son really enjoys this book. It has wonderful pictures and is super colorful. It does however annoy me that with only 100 words, there are several repeats....duck, fish, boat..Also the photos of the babies emotional verbs, such as laugh, and cry, aren't clear, the 'crying' baby just has his mouth open, looking maybe slightly annoyed, but doesn't really look sad at all.Decent book, but could be a lot better.

Although I was expecting the book to be smaller (didn’t exactly read the product description right) I was pleasantly surprised by it. My 2 year old son loves it. The book has nice colorful illustrations/pictures that are written in both English and Spanish. This recent version doesn’t have the error that the other reviews mentioned previously. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a bilingual book for children!

I'm really giving it a 2.5.Some of the words are used twice making it a cop out, and the words used could be difficult for a child to grasp. Like a picture of a combine of some sort has the "word" 'things that move'How is a small child supposed to articulate that?But the ones that make sense are great.We are a bilingual family and it's important to us that our daughter learned both languages. She seems to enjoy the book.

It didn't cross my mind quite how different basic Spanish words are in different countries.Where I'm from "medias" are tights, and "calcetines" are socks. Several other examples.That being said, the main reason for the negative review is that some words are repeated. You only need to include 100 words in the book, why repeat any of them?

I very rarely write reviews due to time constraints, but I really had to come online to recommend this book to parents who want to teach their children Spanish. My two year old loves this book and within a week learned most of the words. The first thing he does when he wakes up is to pick up this book and start reciting the words he knows. I think he likes the big pages with pig pictures where he can hit on the picture asking me what it is and once he knows the words then he would say it after hitting it. I love the fact that it has round edges, vibrant colors, and it is sturdy – great quality. And what I love the most that it is not a 2-minute book like most of the books on the market, it actually has 100 words to learn, great learning material for kids – even for my husband. I think this might be the best online purchase I made.

By the looks of the instructions, it looks to be rather simple or so I hope because once this spring hits I am going to get this book and give it a try. Each project has instruction along with images which I hope shows up in the books because most of them didn’t show up on my digital copy.There are a lot of options for you to build, from small simple smokers like a small clay pot to large more time consuming large smokehouse smokers. You'll find this like small ground fire pits, brick barbecues, all the way to large outdoor kitchens.

Incredibly detailed, step-by-step photo instructions for an amazing selection of grilling and smoking projects. Truly something for everyone. This is the book to not only get ideas - but exact plans, material lists and instructions. There's even a section for tailgating!

Considering the substantial brand value to anything labeled by Black & Decker, this book is as valuable as it's name. I was very pleased with the content of Black & Decker Custom Grills & Smokers and enjoyed the great close-up pictures and ideas. Since we raise our own meat animals we have dreamed of building our own smoker. This book is perfect for that and even has suggestions for the casual griller and smoker needs. Book cover suggests story is in three languages, but that is incredibly deceptive. In fact, the story is entirely in English and just has a few keywords (nouns) in Spanish and French under the flaps. Very frustrating! This is not a great purchase for anyone seeking a story that can be read in any of the three listed languages. For people seeking the same story in English, French, and Spanish in a single book for very young children, instead purchase the two touch-and-feel books by Amélie Graux, ("I Love to Eat" and "I Love to Sleep"). I wish there were more in that series, since truly trilingual story books are apparently very hard to come by.

My son really loves this book and it is really well made. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that I reeeaaally do not like that the corners on this book are sharp. I didn't even notice until we purchased this book that most board books have rounded edges, and this is especially important when you have little kids throwing them around or excitedly pushing them in your face to read. It may sound petty, but I just really wish they would change this.

Not as good as the DVDs. They do not have much text to read to your little one. The pull out tabs are a good idea, but difficult to manage around a baby grabbing all sorts of things. I am keeping them only because I do not want to go through the trouble of returning them. I do regret purchasing the books.

My son loves the Little Pim books. Although he likes it, this one is probably MY least favorite as there's not much of a storyline as in the other books. It seems as though the sandwich ingredients & kitchen items were very random--not common items a young child would use.

Nicely made and kids love it.. thick pages so they won't rip. Thick flaps and durable. Teaches different languages. 5 star

I'm obsessed with this book - it's so fun. My two year old niece loves lifting the flaps and finding answers to the questions. She's started to say the French and Spanish vocabulary with me, too! I know a little Spanish, but I've always struggled with French, so I like that all of the foreign language words have a pronunciation guide underneath them. This way I'm still able to say the words correctly and help my niece as she learns. I hope to purchase the Little Pim French DVDs for her birthday so we can continue learning French together!

“From a Native Daughter” wrote about the history of Hawaii, its people and the colonization. The author of the book, Trask, sounds pretty mad about the colonization of Hawaii in the book. Nowadays people know Hawaii as a state of the United States. But it wasn't part of the US 119 years ago. Hawaii was a nation of monarchy. Captain Cook found Hawaii in 1776. In the year of 1894, the Queen of Hawaii was overthrown. The Queen gave up her rights for the people of Hawaii. She didn't want any more blood of her people spilled on their own land. White people who lives in Hawaii, which she referred as Haole, was settlers. It is obvious that Trask does not like them. To be honest, I don’t think anyone would. These people forcibly overthrown their beloved queen, take their land, twisted and caused sabotage to their culture. It is not just something exist on the history textbook. Or it probably wouldn't be on the history textbook since the textbook was written by the people who took their land. It shocked me that she experienced racism and sexism which came with the colonization while she was teaching in the University of Hawaii. She was qualified for the job she applied for and was rejected by the chair because she’s Hawaiian and female. She was told what to teach and what not to teach. They even told her what to say and what not to say. A white student of University of Hawaii, Joey Carter, wrote a letter which accused that the word “haole” should be prohibited because he considers it racist. I personally do not understand this action at all. He was in the land of Hawaii which he really didn't belong. And the land wasn't even taken legally. What was his place to ask their people to stop using their language just based on his feelings? It is a combination of ignorance and arrogant. Trask wrote back. She said Carter can leave if he didn't like Hawaii and it would be better if there’s one less haole on the land of Hawaii. I wouldn't agree with her way of treating a student. But personally I really like her letter. Because Carter and his action is a very typical haole. She had her reason to be mad and harsh. “From a native daughter” was written from a Native Hawaiian’s eyes. I cannot say it is 100% objective since I can read the feelings between lines. However, it is true feelings of Native Hawaiian people. There are always two sides of one story. It is important to know Hawaii besides all the advertising and cultural appropriation. This land is filled with sunny beaches, lush, and palm trees. But it also bears colonization and cultural sabotages, too.

Haunani Kay Trask was an entirely new author for me when I read From a Native Daughter, I had been to Hawaii once before so I was familiar with the general idea but I never knew so many details of what its really like to be a native Hawaiian. Coming from an academic background Trask lays out her reasons why Hawaii should be independent and why the annexation of Hawaii by the United States was illegal. The act of her laying out a claim and then introducing the UN rights that it violated convinced more than just opinion would have. That’s not to say this book is devoid of any opinion. Trask writes very strongly her opinions on haloes and non natives. I understand it is her home but in the book Trask comes across as very aggressive. In the final chapters we do learn about her career at the University of Hawaii and it can be inferred that her aggressiveness comes from being pushed around a lot but her style will push a lot of people away at first.If you stay with the book though you will be able to learn so much. The amount of information is why I like the book even with the author’s aggressive stance. Not all of the information in the book is about Hawaii even. She covers a lot of pan Polynesian ideals in it too. She makes the interesting fact that we view the Pacific as a land between great powers but there’s actually a nation living in it, the Polynesian people. Even though I knew there was a large culture I never thought about the pacific like that. And it does provide a good contrast to the issues of Hawaii sovereignty. There were times that all of that information did get overwhelming. Specifically when she talks to the UN Group of Native inhabitants in Sweden. That section was extremely dry to me. And it didn’t serve a real purpose in her arguments. I had no prior information before I read this book. And even though I don’t agree with some of Trask’s positions it is always good to learn about a new view point.

There is so much that casual vacationers, honeymooners and thrill-seekers do not know about Hawaii ("Paradise"), and other Pacific Island nations in general, that this book does a fantastic job of peeling back that curtain of ignorance. I sympathize with the author's point of view after learning what I was never taught in school about Hawaii. From a Native Daughter opened my eyes to the true history of Hawaii, and although the tone to some people may be considered "aggressive", I believe the author has every right to express her indignation the way she does, bearing the pain and outrage of a betrayed Hawaii and her people.If some folks are sensitive towards (or offended), by the author's firm tone, then they should continue to work towards dismantling and deconstructing their revisionist history of Hawaii, and educate themselves with the true and harsh reality of what actually happened to the nation of Hawaii and the Hawaiian people. There is a difference between an ill-informed, heated opinion, versus a justified and logical takedown of an historical injustice. That said, her writing remains scholarly, fact-based, and fully realized.Colonization and Imperialism are not subjects to be handled gently, nor should the effects thereof be sugarcoated to make allowances for perpetrators that soften, or mitigate the destructive consequences of their actions. From a Native Daughter should galvanize generations of native Hawaiians, and allies of the cause, to take up the fight for sovereignty and self-determination.

This is the insta-love story of Derek and Fia...The day this was released, I downloaded it, so eager I was to read it. I have recently become an Alexa Riley fan. I admit to only having read seven of her novellas but that just means I have a lot more to enjoy! Yay!!So this story is about sexy firefighter Derek Phoenix and the woman he falls instantly in love with, Fia. Derek has been going through some emotional trauma after having lost a couple of good friends in the line of duty. He's been only "surviving" each day until he lays his eyes on an "angel." Fia.Fia is a waitress currently trying to earn enough money to finish school. After a fire in her apartment, she is set back and worried. She has to start over saving for school. I liked Fia and my heart was heavy for her; she has led a tough life with no real place to call "home." Until... she finds herself in the arms of her savior...Derek.I admit I'm a sucker for these short, sexy, inta-love stories. In addition, this one has some lite suspense. Alexa writes our desires and fantasies and that's why we love them. Derek and Fia together was heart-warming, sweet, and oh so sexy in that "Alexa Riley," way.Oh...Let me add how much I love the book cover! It was perfect!

Holding His Forever by Alexa Riley is pretty typical for an Alexa Riley book. There's insta-love, of course, along with standard Riley characters: a virgin heroine and a possessive hero. Normally, I'm not always in the mood for these tropes, but occasionally I do feel like reading something like this. On its own, it's an okay book, but for a Riley book, it's actually somewhat tame and sweet.Fia is in college trying to finish her degree in social work. She's a waitress at a diner and also works at a women's shelter. Growing up, she didn't have a good childhood. Her dad was abusive. Her mom passed away not too long ago.Derek is a firefighter who is plagued by nightmares. He recently lost some men in the line of duty and hasn't been able to return to his normal self. In an effort to cope, he's working extra shifts and is in denial about what he needs in order to get back to normal life. In addition, Derek lost his mother and is still going through the grieving process.Fia's apartment building catches fire and Derek rescues her, carrying her to safety. Fia doesn't have anyone to turn to or anywhere to go, so Derek takes her in. Derek's motivation is kindhearted, but he has also fallen in love with Fia at first sight.Fia is attracted to Derek in return, but she is hesitant to stay with him at first. However, she doesn't have much choice. Her boss at the diner is a real creeper, the women's shelter is always full, and Fia doesn't have friends she can stay with. So she ends up staying with Derek.As can be expected with any Alexa Riley novel, the insta-love is strong and cheesy. It's not long before they have sex and declare their love for each other, despite the fact that they have literally just met and know nothing about each other. Naturally, even though Fia is a virgin, the sex is mind blowing and amazing and wonderful right off the bat. Because of course. Also, Fia's magical vagina somehow cures Derek's nightmares and grief over the losses he has suffered as a firefighter.There's not much else to tell, really. There is a brief subplot involving Fia's boss, but it is resolved very quickly toward the end of the book. The HEA is achieved as expected, but there isn't anything about this book that's unique or that would make me want to read it again.A couple other things worth mentioning: as I said, for a Riley book, this one is sweeter and not quite as smutty. I was fine with the change of tone, but I would've liked to see SOME character development or relationship development--something to make the romance just a little bit believable. Lastly, I've noticed with Riley's books that there seem to be issues with the editing, such as typos or general grammatical errors. They're not as bad as other books I've read, but they're frequent enough to be noticeable to me and distracting.If you're expecting the smuttiness of a typical Riley book, you won't find it here. This one is definitely more on the sugar-coated side. It's an okay book, but I doubt I'll be returning to this for a re-read.

I know..I know it's sounds cheesy, but hey I pretty enjoyed it.Derek is so sweet and he's a fireman, therefore he's hot (yes I'm addicted to firemen). He's overprotective and I love that.Fia, she's a trooper, she's a humble person, even when she doesn't have enough she always willing to help others.If you like insta-love and sweet romantic fast reading...Try this one.

Yes, it sounds fast and crazy, but no one has ever made him feel like this before and he just knows she is his forever.

As a young father who has largely avoided the litany of parenting books on the market, I didn't know what to expect from John Medina's "Brain Rules for Baby." Purchased on a whim at the recommendation of a friend, the book sat on my shelf, unread, for several months until I realized that my somewhat laissez-faire style of parenting probably wasn't in the best interests of my children - my 15-month-old son and a baby daughter in the oven. Devouring its contents in about a week, I am very glad I had this epiphany sooner than later.Despite being a "developmental molecular biologist" by trade, Medina is a refreshingly savvy writer, opting to avoid much of the jargon that would make the book impenetrable for the untrained layman like me. The book is divided into five clear, topical sections:- Pregnancy (how to help your baby develop while in utero)- Relationship (how to avoid the relationship pitfalls many couples experience post-partum)- Smart Baby (how to optimize your child's brain development and intelligence)- Happy Baby (how to raise a happy, well-balanced child)- Moral Baby (how to help your child develop and nurture their moral compass)Medina does his best to base his recommendations on robust scientific research, which is a plus. As he states early in the introduction, "To gain my trust, research must pass my `grump factor.' To make it into this book, studies must first have been published in the refereed literature and then successfully replicated . . . Where I make an exception for cutting-edge research, reliable but not yet fully vetted by the passage of time, I will note it" (pp. 3). You can tell that he was very careful about choosing what material to include, later citing his distaste for research based on, "shoddy designs, biased agendas, lack of controls, non-randomized cohorts, too-few sample sizes, too few experiments - and lots of loud, even angry, opinions" (pp. 143). Medina knows his statistics, which makes it easier for me to trust that the recommendations he presents in the text have a solid foundation.Perhaps inevitably, it's hard to read a book like this and not feel somewhat inadequate and/or guilty - especially if you already have kids. I couldn't help but think of how much TV I've already let my little boy watch, how much more I should be talking with him to bolster his language acquisition, etc. Fortunately, Medina readily admits that the ideal is not going to be the reality when it comes to parenting: "A family based on every suggestion in this book is fantasy" (pp. 254). Being a parent has its own learning curve, and we're never going to perfectly implement best practices. But if reading this book only makes me a _slightly_ better parent, it will still have been worth it.So why not five stars? As much as I appreciate Medina's "grump factor" in filtering out unreliable data, there are two important topics I felt should have received much more coverage, considering their relative importance in a child's development: nutrition and music. Aside from nutritional imperatives for pregnant mothers, Medina has surprisingly little to say about nutrition beyond the breastfeeding stage. Perhaps he thought nutrition, one of the most controversial subjects out there, was intuitive?As for music, Medina has a bit more to say, but I have mixed feelings about how he presented it. I counted only a couple instances where Medina had something positive to say about the effect of music on a child's development, and in both cases music is cited as helping children better perceive others' emotions, increasing their "ability to establish and maintain friendships" (pp. 273). That's it for the positive; otherwise, Medina is fairly snarky in his dismissal of pro-music research, such as the idea that playing classical music will have a positive effect on a child's development. While I respect his good intentions to clear up erroneous myths, I fear that parents might walk away from this book believing that music is non-essential at best, irrelevant at worst - a tragic conclusion either way, in my opinion.Admittedly, I have a bias: I was raised by a mother who has been an advocate for music education and has proclaimed the positive effects of music on the brain for as long as I can remember (she even wrote a book on it: "Good Music Brighter Children"). Music has always been a major part of my life, and I intend to make it a priority with my own children. Considering Medina's admittance early on that, "Most of the data we have [regarding baby brain development is] associative, not causal," (pp. 7) it seems rather irresponsible for him to dismiss much of the positive research regarding music and brain development so flippantly. While music is certainly not a cure-all, I have good reason to believe, both from anecdotal experience and from the positive research I have read, that the effect of music on the brain goes far beyond simply helping children better perceive others' emotions.Despite my qualms, I would still highly recommend this book for prospective parents. What Medina left out does not invalidate what he included. There are some really excellent, practical ideas that all parents could benefit from (the book even closes with a "Practical Tips" chapter that breaks down much of the research into applicable chunks). While I am not an expert on "essential" parenting books, I am inclined to keep Medina's work within arm's length as I work on raising my young children.

This is one of my favorite thing to give to new/expecting parents & grandparents. It's incredibly well written and edited. I don't know a lot of science based texts (and this is VERY scientifically sound writing) that I would call a "page turner," but that is exactly what this is. The word "rules" in the title turns a lot of people off, understandably - babies don't need rules - but I assure you that there are NO rules of anytype in the way it comes across. It's a fascinating read that I wish was required reading! All OBs should give this to first time parents at their first appointment!

This book was a terrific read, and it offers simple ideas on how to help your baby develope. Shocker here - it promotes lots of things that DON'T involve buying expensive DVDs or toys. I can't say more without letting you get away without reading it... I loved that it discussed the science behind his suggestions, and that things weren't preachy or judgemental (as many of the baby development guides and parenting books out there are.)

This book is great. It helped me (a new dad) understand a lot of the emotional/physical changes my wife is going through and prepared me for some conflicts that were sure to arise. The book also delves into the science of how a baby develops and gives pointers (back with studies) on how promote healthy development. I plan on purchasing a copy for my brother as well.I was also lucky enough to catch a presentation by the author during a conference in California. Great information!

This book is incredible. I'm generally quite skeptical of these types of books - it's just hard to be one size fits all, and unfortunately most "how to parent" books end up being too generic to be helpful. This one is different. I love that the first chapter (after the pregnancy chapters) focuses on the relationship between the parents. It's such an important topic, but SO rarely discussed. After that, the chapters start to shift to advice for parenting. Each chapter focuses on a premise, what comprises or influences that premise, and then the data that supports it (i.e. I want a happy child, here are the things we know/believe to be true about what drives happiness, here's how the research/data would suggest you go about interacting with your child to help him/her attain/learn the thing(s) that drives happiness). It's my favorite book my far.

Our group is starting an educational pre-natal clinic for expectant mothers and fathers to teach them how to jump start their baby's brain and learning. We will use this small book as one of our teaching aids. We also have lots of the work by Glenn Doleman, as well. I reared such a child and she was a Duke Tip scholar (Duke University) at age 13 and in Europe studying at 15. By age 30 she had been to 35 foreign countries on her own and taught school classes in some of them.

This book is amazing about telling you how baby's thinks all the way up until there 5 years old. I mean I have two girls and one of them are 5 years old, And most of the things that it talks about I'm going throw right now with my 5 year old I really wish that I could have read this way before I had my first. But its one the best book that I have read!

I bought this book used from the seller and am excited to say that it arrived in excellent condition with a personalized note I find to be extremely fascinating and easy to follow. Great for anybody with a new baby or anybody that's interested in the developmental stages from in the womb to out in the New World.
