I keep this one right in my golf bag. I'm convinced that any high handicapper could take thirty days to practice the thirty simple yet very practical drills shown in this guide and lower their score by thirty strokes. I go out onto the course now with at least a half a dozen mental images that help me to get right back on track after a bad hole. A great book, a great help. In a personal account, Robinson's daughter, Sharon, describes her father's youth, his rise to become major-league baseball's first African American player, and his involvement in the civil rights movement. Sharon Robinson is an education executive for major-league baseball, and she writes about the sport and her father's life with the same immediate familiarity. It's her seamless blend of history and family story, though, that distinguishes this title. Through particular events in her father's life, the author makes the realities of a segregated society immediate: when her father first showed up for the Brooklyn Dodgers' spring training, for example, he was housed and fed separately from his white teammates. She also includes photographs of racially motivated death threats sent to the Robinson home. Robinson's emphasis on her parents' strong values reiterates some of the material in her previous title for youth, Jackie's Nine (2001), but her private view of her father's accomplishments, placed within the context of American sports and social history, makes for absorbing reading. And the seaplane has enough to worry about without the passenger jet plane crowding its airspace. Can you say bully? The end of the book is such a disappointment. For one, the final page is blank - BLANK! - as if there was nothing else to say about planes. Airports? Pilots? Bernoulli effect? ANYTHING? And the second to final page features - you guessed it - the jet plane, climbing into the sky, with the copy "There goes the jet plane into the sky." Duh! As if it hasn't been cruising smugly at altitude across literally every other page in the book. SMH.

The book is super simple with just a few words & pictures on each page, but it's perfect for my airplane loving 2 yr old grandson. We read and reread it about 10 times in a row before taking a break. It's his favorite book right now. I'll get tired of reading it before he will get tired of hearing it.

DH is a commercial pilot. This is a great intro to planes book for my 1 year old to talk about what daddy does. Cute illustrations. Longer than I expected but still a few words on each page keeps attention of the 1 year old.

Somewhere after 6 mo, "Boats" fell out of favor and "Planes" took its place as the most favorite book from our limited transportation and machine set (Boats, Planes, Trains, Machines at Work). I'm rather fond of all of these books, mostly for the illustrations which I like very much, bold blocks of color outlined in heavy, black line.Planes isn't Elsie's (8 mo) current favorite book, it's somewhere after Dinosaur Dinosaur and My Car, and somewhere ahead of Barnyard Dance and Sheep in a Jeep, but it definitely makes the list!Like Barton's other books, Planes is a sturdy board book with lovely, bold, vivid, and simple illustrations accompanying very simple text. Elsie's favorite pictures are of the orange jetplane on the blue sky, and of the people getting on and off of the plane. Often she'll let me read it through the first time, then want it again, but turn through quickly herself until she gets to her favorite pages, which she either studies carefully or hits vigorously, depending on her mood. She is certainly interested.I like all of these books for reading to babies, and recommend the board books, even if they aren't lap-sized prints. They're the same size as my other board books, and that seems big enough for Elsie.Any word from other readers on whether or not any pages were omitted in the board book version of this book? I'm curious about it.

Bought this as a birthday gift for the "one year old" grandnephew. He loved it! And so did his parents ;-)

We bought our son a toy airplane and this book is an excellent accompaniment to the toy, even they are not related or co branded. The book is designed well, has appealing colors and simple (and cute) illustrations depicting the variety of airplanes that we use, from the jetliner to the crop duster. I enjoy reading it to my son and I imagine someday it will overtake the squishy turtle and friends and baby owls and little blue truck as the book he wants me to read out loud to him.

A good book, not a great book, but a good one. The grandkids enjoy have it read to them more than once. It is a good basic introduction to airplanes for 12mo to 4 or 5 year olds.

My husband has early-on Alzheimers and this book is a must read for getting the caregiver and family through it. Tells you what to expect and really helps you understand your own feeling about where you are. I am going to purchase a copy of every member of the family.

If you have a family member or friend that is showing signs of dimentia, you owe it to yourself to read this book. It's not easy to read, because the subject is a hard one if you are exposed to someone with diminishing mental functions, but that's not the books fault. I have read about 40% of it, and have already learned more than I have in all of my other research on the Internet and in reading a couple of other books and talking to many people. It's well written, the language is easy to read (even if the subject matter is difficult to face), and it provides factual information that is entirely relevant. There is a chapter that explains many of the behavior changes you may face, with excellent suggestions on how to deal with each of them. Most sound like common sense once you read them, some are counterintuitive, but I believe all are more effective than what I had been doing. Knowing the most loving responses to a situation doesn't always give you the ability to implement them in the moment, but knowing is better than ignorance. Parts of this book are worth reading a few times, as you learn and try things and come back and review what's working and what isn't in re-reading the key parts of the book. I highly recommend the book.

If you are living with or caring for anyone with memory loss, you owe it to them and to yourself to be aware of how to communicate, live with and be kind to them and yourself. I personally have had three people in my life with whom I either lived or cared for them in their homes. I only had this book for two of those three people and, I believe with all my heart, it helped me to be a better care taker for them. Patience is critical for the patient and well being is critical for the care giver. I'm not a professional care giver, just a daughter and a daughter-in-law who found myself in a position of caring for loved ones who needed help. Care givers also need help and this book tells it like it is.This book helped me to identify when my mother started having problems with her memory; things that I thought were mood swings or behavior issues but were actually the onset of memory loss. This book taught me how to care for my loved ones and myself. It showed me what I needed to do to make changes in living arrangements and gave me guidelines to financial issues.We all need help sometime and this book is a great one for just that reason. This book taught me that I could not do it alone and to seek out and ask for help for my loved one(s) and myself.

For anyone even remotely connected with a person or persons who have dementia or Alzheimer's, this book is a must-read. The first couple of chapters provide much insight into what these diseases are and how to help those suffering with them. Being a caregiver is a huge burden on a person, and understanding the person for whom you are caring is not an intuitive task. When a person's memory begins to fade, their actions no longer follow a normal path. This book provides the caregiver with the ability to understand what they are dealing with and what the diseased person is living with. If you are a caregiver, and even if your loved one is in a memory care facility, this book will help you to understand what that person is experiencing.

This is a MUST for anyone going through this with their spouse, mother, father, or grandparents. You think you understand the problem until you read this manual. It will become your best guide through a difficult time.
