Loved the tips in this book. My lawn was in sad shape. Using many tonics faithfully from this book, my soil became conditioned and ready for other growing products. Before I started w. his tonics nothing worked. I could not grow grass to healthy permanent condition or keep new grass for more than one season. Now it's green and thriving. Yes tonics are a lot of work. Using a tonic before and after applying lime for example. But it works. Its fun too. I'm outside more. Tip on using beer, be sure to apply a rinse tonic after any use otherwise you'll get slugs all over. Use the clean up tonic faithfully. Also, make notes. I put mine in catagories and have mini reference sheets to use when outside and dirty.

we can't afford the landscape company services so my husband bought this book and we have used the weed killer and lawn fertilizer mixer ideas. our lawn looks as nice as the neighbors for much, much less. best option for the budget conscious like us

This is my favorite garden-help book! I am on my second one, having either lost or loaned out my last one. I really like the friendly way this book is written and the instructions are clear with ingredients I can pronounce! My roses went through a fungus issue and the book helped me figure out how to treat the problem. My roses look sooo much better now, thanks to the information in this book!

This book is a great bargain. The purchase price is very reasonable and the methods work very well and they are relatively inexpensive compared to commercial products. The methods are also very environmentally friendly.This is an excellent resource for those individuals who want to have a beautiful lawn and garden. All methods in the book use safe products that most people have on-hnd or that can be easily purchased at the grocery or hardware store. The methods have work great and my lawn is really beautiful.

I purchased this book for my husband after he saw this on PBS. He loves taking care of our lawn so this was right up his alley. We've had the book a year and we constantly get compliments on our lawn from all of our neighbors or guests we have over.There are a lot of neat tips and tricks you can try using household items like dish soap, spices, baking soda, etc. I forget all of the things, but my husband is always using up something or other of mine for our lawn now. Some of the formulas definitely work for us, others I'm not as sure. But either way, my husband is having a ball trying all of these "recipes".I'd recommend this book to someone looking to improve their lawn and who also likes to work on their lawn and try new things for it. Most of the tips are inexpensive and not too much time or trouble.

Great ideas. Not completely "organic" but easy, and with available household items. I am trying some of tonics. No bad results so for for last 4 months. Keeping lawn journal/log so I can accurately measure progress. I have highlighted a lot of book. It is an easy read and worth purchase price.Mosquito tonic of 1cup lemon ammonia and 1 cup lemon dish soap 3 consecutive days to run off Mosquitos has had success on my back yard. Previous years, back yard was un enjoyable in summer because of bugs. Only thing I changed was adding peppermint oil also to tonic. I have read Mosquitos do not like lemon or peppermint. Has been working so far

This is an extremely comprehensive book. My company is implementing Project Server and I know MS Project quite well through a number of versions over the past 10 years. This book has all of the information a PM will need to know to use the features of Project Server well - to eliminate the floundering around trying to move individual project files over to the server. The descriptions and How To's for the consolidation features are terrific - resource mapping over multiple project to manage a portfolio, etc. It is a lot of work to implement Project Server but this book is a clearly written manual with a decent index to find just what you need. The chapters that I needed the most are very concise, so in 20-30 minutes you can tuck into a sandwich and a new topic with ease. Very nicely done. I have a long time technical and development background as well as many years of PM experience and tend to be highly critical of technical books. This one is a "keeper" and is very useful. I purchased and returned 3 others before deciding this was the one with the most value that has detailed coverage of the things that one needs to know to make the jump from the desktop application. I have two recent tech degrees and have read dozens of huge technical books in the past few years. Bravo Gary - 5 stars is very hard to come by from this techy PM!

This book is absolutely great for learning project server 2013, recently I completed my 74-343 cert and wanted to go in deeper into microsoft project technologies and set myself up to complete the 74-344 exam (passed as well) and upon my research I found that this book along with a few blog post here and there, specialized forums and technet where the only real resources available to do self study for the cert, aside from a few expensive web based training offerings that I decided to skip because they did not have the depth that this book offered and I needed to meet my certification goal.With that in mind I located a hyper-v vm that has project server 2013 that is provided freely by microsoft for demos and began my learning journey with this book.The pace of the book is interesting it provides a lot of indeepth information onto the tool and sharepoint prior to actually teaching you how to do some stuff, later on I found how key this is to understand this product, so don't get discouraged by the first few chapters it all build up to set you up for success.I have a Microsoft MCSA, sharepoint and MS project and PMI PMP background that really allowed me to hit the ground running with this book and allowed me to be sucessful with it, however this book is is quite interesting how it was put together as it caters to project/program/portfolio managers first and IT staff in second position, for the greater benefit of IT staff msProjectExperts has another book more geared toward them. In my opinion this approach works out pretty good as project server has really grown form previous version and you need to focus on either managing projects/portfolios or managing the server infrastructure.TIPS:download the microsoft project server 2013 administrators guide as reference if you are looking to complement your knowledge particularly on application settings and server configuration.Linda.com and keystonelearning.com have web based training offerings that provides a good overview on some of the project web app settings that might be useful to review as well to compliment your reading and practice with the product.

The Air You Breathe is a magnificent work of cultural historical fiction and is definitely one of my favorite books of the year.This novel contains all of the aspects I seek in literary fiction: a well-paced plot, beautiful yet clear and engaging writing, and richly drawn characters.Music is a theme that is incorporated into the plot, but The Air You Breathe is really driven by the fascinating journeys of Dores and Graca. I also loved learning about historical Brazil and classic Hollywood while simultaneously being entertained by the story.This novel is completely engrossing and unforgettable. Highly recommended!

Confined my reading to bedtime, but found it difficult to stop and go to bed. Great book, gripping story. I had to exert great will to put it down and go to sleep. Recommend it highly. Could have used some footnotes to explain the slang used as part of the culture, but still worth it. I was completely immersed in the story. How I love a good book!!! I'm still looking for a more recent book like this. There's a lot of useful learning-curve information, but you better be technically savvy and already an experienced Linux user. It's not for Newbies unless you come from another similar technology, such as the Windows world, or Networking. Otherwise, there's way too much under the hood you'll have to just take on faith. The book makes it seem easy, but unfortunately, there's some roadblocks with later OS's. You'll need to use older distros to make all these examples work as is.There's also a void where it could explain how to correctly add an app server to the KDC. There's so little info there that I had to resort to Google. I was totally confused between using DNS and Kadmin to manage principles.Anyway, the book helped me a lot, it just wasn't all I needed. Outside research and translations are needed by now.

First I would like to justify my 5 star rating. This book helped me out of a nasty multi-homed host and DNS problem when no other source could. Without this book I would have been troubleshooting this issue for days. I feel the book has paid for itself.However, I wouldn't consider this "The Definitive Guide." It lacks documentation on the krb5.conf configuration file. I found myself referencing the krb5.conf(5) man page for additional info. Also, the documentation that comes with Heimdal is a very good good source for configuration settings.Another deficiency is the GSSAPI coverage. I did have some trouble setting up my GSSAPI aware SSH with Kerberos. I found myself digging through the ssh man pages and doing some trial and error. Chapter 7 discusses Kerberos enabled applications. SSH is covered there, but I felt the GSSAPI aspect was lacking. Although the author mentions that GSSAPI is not specific to any authentication method and is somewhat out of place in a Kerberos book, I feel this is where the author could have went the extra mile and claimed the right to the title "The Definitive Guide." There are many Kerberized applications today not mentioned in Chapter 7. It would be nice to see a second edition that covers them.What this book has that you will not find in any other single source is comprehensive coverage of the history, protocols, and implementation of Kerberos complete with diagrams. From a security standpoint, this will really help you understand what is going on in your network. For example, when setting up my firewall rules and NIDS, I really had a grasp on what traffic was going where and what needed to be blocked/detected.Chapter 6, Security, is very comprehensive and outlines various root compromises, dictionary and brute-force, replay, and man-in-the-middle attacks. It also details the importance of pre-authentication in Kerberos V as well as best practices to protect your key distribution center (KDC).My Kerberos network is a 10 host homogeneous OpenBSD network running the Heimdal Kerberos V version 0.7.2. Although this book covers the older Heimdal 0.6, it was still very relevant. It also covers the MIT 1.3 implementation (MIT is currently at version 1.6.3). Although this book was published in 2003, it is still worth its price brand new in 2008.

Not really the author's fault, the world has changed a lot since this book was written. The first couple chapters are a good run down on the Kerberos protocol & it's various flavors but then it's age starts to show. If you're the kind of person who is compiling your client security from source you probably need to get your hands on documentation that's more up to date. Does not really tell you much about using SRV records, cross realm auth, leveraging it if you're on Active Directory etc. The writing tends to make the technology sound more difficult to understand than it actually is.When it came out this was almost certainly a 5 star book. It's age, not it's content is the problem.

This book is a rather complete technical overview of Kerberos. It starts with a technical overview, which is a big must to be able to configure and debug a Kerberos system. It then jumps to implementation and then ends with integration.The overview is rather short, but was sufficient to help me install successfully a Heimdal system on my BSD network. I would have like more informations on how to integrate Windows Vista and XP to Heimdal, but the book falls short on this.Overall, I strongly recommend this book to anyone who needs to install quickly and maintain a Kerberos system. No quick tutorial would be enough and «Kerberos: The Definitive Guides» makes it as short as can be.

I came away from this book with a better understanding of how Kerbereos works, but with no new information on using or administrating it.

I purchased this book to assist in integrating Linux authentication with Active Directory. It provided about 90% of the information I needed, the rest came from the web. Offers a concise overview of Kerberos, pretty good coverage of interaction with Active Directory, and some great information on inter-realm trusts that was hard to find via Microsoft. All this talk of AD aside, plenty of high quality information here for the Open Source community.

I was required to read one of three books for a low level history course. I chose this one just because I had never heard of it and didn't really know anything about the Islamic perspective of the crusades (or really anything). It's astoundingly great and I can't believe that it isn't more popular (though according to Wikipedia it is a translated work that has been under many names, and The Book Of Contemplation is just the latest one). The stories are very visceral and sometimes gory, but there's also plenty of light-hearted stories and lessons to be learned. It's definitely a fun read, but can be a little confusing due to the muslim names and places if you aren't familiar with their structure. However, the book includes a glossary of names, maps, and references for expressions and historical things you might not know. I highly recommend this book for anyone that has the slightest interest in the crusades!

Fascinating glimpse of life a thousand years ago in the middle east. Delightful surprises for me included lions roaming the region, hunting with raptors, the state of medicine, and the range of travel. The writer went back and forth from present day Syria to North Africa in an era long before motorized transport. Added bonus, places in the news today crop up including Homs, Damascus, Jerusalem, Cairo, and Baghdad. These were already well established cities even then. Certainly sheds light on how western intervention was regarded back then, and by extension, now.

You really have to like middle-east history, and my hubby does. He says it's plodding, but good.

I was looking for a first hand account of the crusades from a Muslim perspective - perfect!

Usama's account gives us a glimpse into the medieval world. I highly recommend it if you are having trouble comprehending how crucially different life was back then. People, literally, think differently, their world is governed by religion and every act is subject to judgement. Mr. Cobb does an excellent job, making hundreds of interesting notes on the smallest details.

She shares about her own self-doubts and hard work that put her on the path to the world stage, and how she ultimately made peace with God's love outside track and field.A few days ago, I put this book in my 9 year old daughter's hands. Typically she loves historical fiction, but she's a dancer and I thought she'd appreciate the focus on training and sacrifice. Needless to say, she's actually enjoying it and especially likes the focus on growing with the Lord. It's exciting for me as a mom to see good books out there, encouraging our kids to work hard, go for their dreams, but still find their identity in the Lord. This is one such book. Each chapter contains a sidebox with an extra story or anecdote, and each ends with a summary thought connecting Sanya's life experiences to her faith. Full disclosure.....I have met the author but that is entirely beside the point because this book shines on its own merits. Abdi writes beautifully as he tells the brutal tale of his childhood in war ravaged Somalia Even when he moved on to Kenya it was still a perilous time for him. He wanted so badly to become American which was a land he knew from watching movies.Through chance and a good bit of luck he found support through the BBC and NPR before he won his golden ticket to get a visa to move to the country of his dreams.Once in the US he had to make many adjustments as he learned to live in Maine.This whole life experience would have broken many but instead it made Abdi stronger and instead of hardening his heart the adversity made his heart bigger.Please read this book....you will not regret it.

Once upon a time I was an avid reader of non-fiction. Now, as a 70 something senior, I gravitate toward lighter escapism fiction. I heard about this book on NPR and decided to check it out on Amazon. It was all the positive reviews without a single 3 stars or lower that prompted me to download it to my Kindle. Am I glad I did. The writing flowed, the story captivated. I could not bring myself to put it down. If like me you rarely or never read memoirs or non-fiction, I urge you to make an exception and read Call Me American. It is a heart wrenching story of what it is like to live in a war-torn country. It is also a story of hope and perseverance that will lift your spirits. I hope Mr. Iftin has another amazing book in the works.

I first heard of Abdi on NPR. I sat in my grocery's store's parking lot for 50 min. to hear the whole interview by a British reporter as he talked every few days with Abdi while he was still in Kenya and trying to get his green card. It was scary, astonishing and life-affirming. Abdi is now in the US and I hope to hear him at a book signing in Tempe or Phoenix, AZ. He writes so well. Do NOT MISS this book.

This is an incredible, true story of a young boy, born in Mogadishu, Somalia just as his country is being torn apart by civil war. He miraculously survives the constant barrage of warfare surrounding him, suffering devastating losses, and witnessing horror after horror. Somehow, this child, recognizing the futility of the tribal warfare, grasps onto the few elements of American culture that he can find, teaches himself English, and imagines a future for himself in America. You have to read the book, but you will understand, it is nothing short of incredible that he actually makes it. I learned so much from his story. It's clear to me now that we need to become a more welcoming country for these incredible people from desperate war torn areas. More people need to read this book.

I finished it on Saturday. Beautifully written. (With no ghost writer, people! He really did teach himself English AND can write and speak better than most of us.) I could hardly breathe the whole time and when I finished I didn't know what to do... I cried a little for all the terror and devastation. And then, everywhere I have gone since then, I see things more than a little differently. Your book is incredible Abdi Iftin. Your survival is mind-blowing, and we are all blessed by your ability to tell the story. I don't know how you remembered all of those days. Each moment of life seemed like another threading of the needle, under extreme conditions.

I have read a lot of memoirs and novels, but have never read anything like this book before. It has opened my eyes to what those seeking asylum in America endure. I thought I knew, just anecdotally from news stories, but I didn't know. I still can't truly know, because to know is to experience. But Abdi Iftin has invited us into his life with a stunning memoir, and he's done it through beautiful and thoughtful writing. This book also gave me a perspective on America that I have never considered, and I hope it will allow me not to take for granted our freedoms and the peace in which we are so fortunate to live, and so many died to ensure for us. To this brave young man: thank you for writing this book. I wish you much peace and hope your family is safe and healthy. To anyone considering reading this book: I can't recommend it enough.

I couldn't put down this memoir once I'd picked it up. Like others, I bought this book after hearing the author's story on NPR. I needed to hear what happened after he made it to America: what was life like? Where did he go, what did he do? These questions were answered, but just as compelling was everything that preceded the NPR story: his parents' lives in the bush herding animals, his early years in Mogadishu, and his family's survival through decades of war.Before I opened the cover I knew little of Somalia, and it is now a country that has texture and taste in my mind. For most of the book I felt a sense of anger and mourning due to the senseless violence, the US's role in destabilizing the country, and the utter destruction of a vibrant culture and people. But the author helped paint a picture--his picture--of a nation that could rise again, and of a rich future for his homeland. The book leaves the reader with this hope, in spite of an epilogue filled with foreboding following the 2016 election and growing anti-immigrant rhetoric: a fear that he never thought he'd find in the US.I am grateful for this story for many reasons: to know and appreciate a beautiful culture I didn't know existed; for the reminder of why it's important to resist extremism and hateful rhetoric; and as a reminder to practice empathy towards others. This book has also left me with a heavy question: knowing these lessons, what will I do with it? To that, I do not yet have an answer.
