Brian Lies has proved his mastery of illustration and story yet again! The illustrations alone tell a powerful story of friendship, loss, anger, acceptance, and hope. With purposeful choices in color that express the moods of the story, each page has layers of information in the tiniest details. In addition, the extremely precise verbiage says just enough to understand the story, but does not over-tell. The reader can easily fill in any loss, though choosing a pet is very appropriate. This book could be used in classrooms and at home, and can be given to anyone of any age.

A sweet story of love, grief and starting anew. A lesson for adults, as well as children. The pictures are detailed, clever and poignant. I appreciate the message of allowing Evan the space to work through his feelings and not make any of them wrong, but just part a path on the way back to life.

Excellent book for children on grief and the cycle of grieving. As a psychotherapist, is use it in both individual and group therapy. Perfect for parents as well.

I read Rough Patch to my two grand nephews (they are cousins) today and they were enthralled.Both families are dog lovers and owners.The kids asked thoughtful questions after being read to and were pleased with the ending.A must read if you love the cycle of friendship between a family and a pet.

Simple. Heartfelt. A wonderful springboard for conversations about loss. LOVE the ending and the fact that it is wordless and filled with hope.

I had a hard time reading this through all the tears but it's one of the most beautiful and palpable, but ultimately hopeful books about grief I have ever read.

My grand nephew loved this beautifully illustrated book that depicts loss, grief, and renewal. Kids' lives aren't perfect and they know it.

After the sudden loss of my Mom this past year, this book was a great way to show my children that its okay to feel like you want to be alone, and angry sometimes, but that at some point, you'll go back to being more of yourself. Of course, the illustrations were gorgeous as well. We love Brian Lies!

Lots of valuable historical information, however there are too many inaccuracies to award it more stars. The information provided on Marie Laveau is composed of pure legend. The home she lived in was not awarded to her for winning a court case. It belonged to who grandmother who was a free slave and she purchased the land and built the home and outbuildings with the money she earned as a merchant. For a fascinating and factual account of her life based on much research check out Carolyn Morrow Long's book. The address listed as the haunted location in "The Octoroon Mistress" does not match that of the Bottom of the Cup Tea Room. Both locations are on 2 separate streets! The information provided about Charles and Laura Larendon in "The Devil Came to New Orleans" is not factual. With all of these flaws it is hard to trust the credibility of any of the information provided.

I bought this book directly from a shop in the French Quarter. I purchased it some time ago for my Kindle but the device was irrevocably damaged during a flood. That aside, I found this book an interesting mix of history and macabre. For anyone who has an interest in New Orleans dark side, this tome is a must read. The introduction (something I rarely read) provides a brief step into the history of the city. Afterwards, the author takes the reader on a journey through the haunting history the beginnings of the city to almost present day.Some of my favorite parts are:~ The LaLaurie Mansion: a supposed dinner party turns into a blazing scandal that revealed the dark truth about a notorious socialite.~ Marie Laveau: Celebrated Voodoo queen and keeper of secrets.~ The Sultan's Palace: a mysterious Royal and his entourage meet an equal strange end.~ Haunted Hotels and restaurants: one could be sharing desert with a long ago waiter or entertainersThis book is spine tingling and hard to put down. I often re-read parts to relive to fascination all over again. I Believe the author did fine jobs and I highly recommend this book before a trip to The Big Easy.

Troy Taylor is always an interesting writer. He does a lot of research on his subject of area, and all the books I've read from him make history fascinating. I really enjoy all of his books, very informative.

Taylor is a master. I am an historian and feel that I know the history of New Orleans fairly well. Still,Taylor's history is fantastic. He weaves the "dark" history of the City into the ghostly and hemakes you never want to put the book down! It is strange that I thought I knew something about theCity, but Taylor opened new doors for me all along the way. And, after all was said and done I cameaway from the book with a hopeful, upbeat feeling about the City and her future!

Excellent read on some of the different homes in new orleans. While visiting the town I reference the book while walking around.

I have visited New Orleans several times and knowing some of the history, this makes me want to go back and understand it all better!

Picture of pre-order included.When it comes to books about bitcoin, blockchain, and cryptoassets, the are as many books out as ICO’s and sadly they have the same depth and value, none. I am happy to be able to say this book is not one of them. This book has depth as well as value.There are several aspects I like about this book that I am going to write about in no particular order, because I like them all equally.First I will mention the writing style. The authors have an easy to read writing style that makes the book an enjoyable read.I love all the history in it. The book does a great job of covering the evolution of cryptoassets. They cover the good, bad, and ugly of bitcoin’s history and bring us into the present world of decentralized applications.The authors break cryptoassets into cryptocurrencies, cryptocommodities, and cryptotokens. They cover each one in detail and give a lot of examples of each in existence today. The examples include bitcoin, Litecoin, Ripple, Dogecoin, Dash, Monero, Zcash, Ethereum, Auger, dApps in general.I like that the author’s are not cryptozealots. They paint a realistic picture of the landscape and give fair warning to those that may embark on a ride of the cryptoasset roller coaster.The authors provide an analysis and valuation framework that lays out the elements to look for and analyze when deciding on weather or not an investment would be worth it. Their framework not only does a great job of listing all the elements, but they also do a great job of putting them into context, explaining their role, and what to look for.Another thing I have spent hours in is all the notes. They have a ton of great references. These totally sidetracked me several times.When I read a book I mark the outside with things I want quick access to or want to remember. I have added 2 pictures to the review to show you there is a lot of things you’ll want to recall as you go through your journey.If you are thinking about investing in cryptoassets, this book is a must read.

Cryptoasets: The Innovative Investor's Guide, provides a clear, concise overview of a rapidly emerging market and group of tools that will impact our lives for the better. Context is everything. I am not a professional trader or investor. Prior to getting involved with cryptoassets, I wasn't even remotely a hobby trader. I contributed to my retirement through work in typical mostly hands-off ways i.e 401k or mutual funds. I got involved with Bitcoin because I liked the technology and the societal implications. Once that hooked me, I had to figure out how to put that interest to use. That is where Chris Burniske and Jack Tatar come in with Cryptoassets. The authors provide a timely description of the investing landscape without turning over every stone or looking behind every tree. They paint with broad brush strokes using various cryptoassets to articulate a point. Without getting bogged down in too many details that change quickly in cryptomarkets, they filled in significant knowledge gaps and helped me understand how much I did not know about investing or how cryptoassets compare to conventional assets. There is a place for the highly technical description of cryptoassets or investing. That is not this book.The authors start with a brief historical overview, beginning with the 2008 financial crisis, providing a narrative baseline that helps make Bitcoin and all the cryptoassets that came after, make sense. The description of the technical aspects is not too complicated, while providing a clear solid description of what blockchain is and why it matters as an innovative leap forward. When discussing Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Golem, etc. many people default to calling these assets "coins" or "cryptocurrency". The authors do not do this. I think, one of the key points they bring to the discussion is that cryptoassets are not simply currency. Cryptoassets include currencies, along with commodities, and tokens. As the market matures understanding this will become more important. The distinction the authors make by focusing on assets verses currency also helps as they move through the topic of investing and how to determine the merit of one asset type over another.For someone who has not followed the development of cryptoassets from 2009 to the present, the description of how cryptoassets have been received by the traditional investing community and the US government, was particularly useful. It provides a picture of how developed the market is and what needs to happen for the market to continue mature relative to existing practices. As a prior hands-off/non-investor the discussion of financial tools like exchange traded funds (ETF), or the recent development of initial coin offerings, or initial cryptoassets offering, (ICO) and the current government perception of taxing cryptoassets was all very helpful. Most likely, cryptoassets will transform investing more than they already have. The book suggests possible ways this might play out without being overly rigid with assumptions.Practical overviews of exchanges, wallets, mining, were also helpful. There is an inherent limitation in discussing these subjects. The technical aspect can easily get mired down in quickly changing minutia, which is not the point or strength of this book.The authors also address the merit of cryptoassts as an asset class. They provide a defense of cryptoassets and, by comparison show how cryptoassets differ from money making schemes and fraudulent ways of separating people from their money. That is not to say no cryptoassets are scams. Like with fiat currency, scams exist within the crypto world. Cryptoassets are not inherently a scam. In fact, they offer many benefits. This book is easily one of the best places for a beginner or dabbler to start growing their understanding of cryptoassets and investing. It does an excellent job of introducing both. It should be in any crypto-investor's library. I hope as the market and technology develop this book is updated in order to remain current. As of early 2018 it is still quite relevant.I bought the Kindle, Audible, and hardcover versions. The Audible narrator, Dave Clark, made the sections I listened to easy to follow. I would listen to him again without reservation.

Definitely the most informative book on crypto assets so far. I have read 7 books so far on crypto-assets and bitcoin and whatnot but most of them were more like pamphlets and had information based on just that specific individual and how he became crazy rich and what not. This book, however, goes in deep dive to teach you the aspect of the regular financial market and bring that around on how bitcoin and other crypto-assets could mature around the current financial system. The use graphs, equations historical data to teach you about crypto assets and markets. This book definitely qualifies to be read twice in my list.

This is by far the most intelligent book I’ve read on investing in cryptocurrency. It applies the standards for evaluating all other investments to the cryptocurrency asset class. I suspect many investors will learn something about investing in general as well as how to apply it to cryptocurrency.My only criticism is that the book’s view of cryptocurrency doesn’t include an interesting class of tokens focused on exchange for assets (and to some extent being asset-backed). I own several of those currencies and don’t find that the book’s approach to evaluating the cryptocurrency applies. Maybe that will be addressed in future editions.There should be future editions of this book. The book cuts off at the beginning of January 2017 and we all know the explosion in cryptocurrency since then. I hope the authors revise and extend the book using their sound methodology so it doesn’t go too far out of date. We need more books like this with good investment advice and no hype.

I really love this book, but I had a concerns on the front it explicitly says "FOR KIDS!" although it has a joke about a pimp. Now I don't really care but if you want to explain what a pimp is go ahead I don't suggest this book for under 10 but whatever you want to do with your best judgement go ahead.other than that it is a great book or should I say a rib tickler?

This book traces the main events in the life of Wes Skyles. It documents through him, the discovery of Florida's unique Karst topography and groundwater flow. Like many brilliant thinkers, Wes was often disbelieved in his information regarding his discoveries. Only years later have we realized that he was correct all along. Hopefully his seminal work, Water's Journey, will change the hearts and minds of citizens of Florida. We are lucky enough to have one of the most beautiful and available sources of groundwater, springs like Wakulla that we can only hope to restore to it's natural abundance and beauty after Wes proved how groundwater can flow. This is a must read for anyone who loves swimming, diving or the amazing nature along our coasts and within our state! As for the lack of color pictures in the book, go to the resources in the back and watch some of the many works he created. It would be impossible to get across in a photograph!

a good read, great literary content....however.....lots of black and white photos of wes and his gear,... which have been seen in hundreds of other dive books. NOT ONE SINGLE COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS OF HIS STUNNING UNDERWATER PHOTOS WHICH MADE HIM FAMOUS.....A serious oversight by the author and the publisher.

A well-written biography of an interesting guy most of us have never heard of. Really enjoyed it.

Very well written narrative captures Wes' incredible exploits as well as his commitment to protecting our springs and waterways. An exciting and inspirational reflection on an adventurous life well lived.

Good book about a great guy.

Drawn to the Deep is the story of the life and Lifework of Wes Skiles; a modern explorer and self made environmentalist, photographer and top notch cave diver. This book reads like an episode on the Discovery channel, keeping you engaged, on the edge of your seat at times and above all, educating you about the beauty and fragility of our natural resources. Can’t wait to go back and look up issues of the National Geographic magazines and see his work all over again! With the current news of toxic algae blooms in the waters of Florida, the timing of this book couldn’t be better! My wish would be for everyone, especially those in the Florida legislature, to read this book.

If you are interested in caving in Florida Wes was one of the great explorers. Worth the read!

Picking up tis play to read I knew absolutley nothing about it other than having heard it's name. I have to say I am glad I took a chance on the unknown because this play was truly a pleasure to read. Once I got used to the English used in it reading it became almost melodic in my head. There is no doubt Shakespeare knew how to make words dance. This play almost feels like it should be two separate plays since they are so very different in feel. The first half a tragedy and the sequel a romance. I feel like Shakespeare wrote this play as sort of an homage to the Greek classics. if that was his intent, then I have to say he succeeded very well indeed. I loved that even with all the flowery language (multiple times requiring me to look up words) he quickly managed to start the film projector in my head I was seeing the action happening in my head. Truly a classic and I am so thrilled that my first foray into Shakespeare unknown to me was such a resounding success!!

This is one of Shakespeare's most powerful, and state of the art plays, yet it is still inadequately known and performed. His haunting portrayal of a charismatic political outsider, a man riven by a river of self-hatreds and insecurities and just as contemptuous of the mob as he is of the political elite who use him for their own purposes, is just as relevant today as in the 16th century, in the shadow of Essex. The book's introduction, by Jonathan Crewe is first rate in understanding both the play and the character of Coriolanus, and I recommend this play for anyone wishing to get his or her feet wet in learning about Shakespeare's tragedies.

Perhaps (?) not among the best known of Shakespeare's works, this play partakes of his ironic and tragic celebration of Roman ideals, namely, "laus", "gloria", "virtus" in particular. The aristocracy of Coriolanus' Rome "appears" dedicated to high-sounding and noble ends - Roman: honour, bravery, valour, proper governance. The governance is presented as "organic" and therefore just. Pleasure is significantly absent from this universe. Continuation as concept and even mere consequences - are best left out of sight. The character of Volumnia devalues what would be "feminine" ends in the language and imagery "she" uses, a deathly and mechanistic language used to describe her son. Marilyn French has seen similarities between Coriolanus-the-character and another notorious misanthrope, Timon of Athens: the search for honor, fame and the attempt to act according to socially accepted rules moves on to a quest for self-exaltation. Without firm rooting in the community - yet while using this very community - there is only the self, and the self cannot provide its own end. One editor having noted that the adjective "alone" occurs more often in Coriolanus than in any other play by Shakespeare, the isolation the eponymous character finds himself in is typical, as it were, of an opposition found between those heroes embodying the "chivalric" as opposed to the "heroic" or "Herculean" ideal (Antony, Coriolanus, Achilles in Troilus and Cressida.) But Hercules is a demi-god: the characters are not; punishment of hubris - Coriolanus' bravery leads to extreme arrogance, as he sets himself above all men - means banishment, isolation, and death.

Coriolanus is not --never has been -- one of my favorites of Shakespeare's works. But the volume under review is in the Arden 3rd series and I've slowly been working my way through the 3rd series volumes as they appear. I'm more than pleased to have read this new treatment of Coriolanus: the editor has done an outstanding job of providing historical context for the play, carefully comparing it to the treatment of the story given in Shakespeare's sources. The editorial machinery carefully adheres to the Arden series standards, explaining how other editions have dealt with textual problems, and providing cogent arguments for the choices made in this edition. I've even come to like the play better. Highly recommended.

The Winter's Tale (New Cambridge Shakespeare)Another crappy formatting job by Cambridge University Press.In order to read the play without insane and seemingly random line breaks, you have to set the font at its smallest size. When it's extremely hard to read. I checked it against Macbeth, in the same series. Macbeth is fine.So for an extra five bucks, you get a practically unreadable text. Nice job Cambridge. Nice job Amazon.
