It’s a wonder this isn’t the best-selling book on the market right now. I picked this one up (along with a few others) on a bit of a whim, as I was curious what a good poker book looked like in 2017, and I’ve been open to finding a text that can explain the modern 2017 NLHE game to me. I’m very impressed with this one, as it is well presented and well thought-through; doesn’t needlessly bog you down with a wall of statistics or text; and is a remarkably easy read for an advanced text.OVERVIEWThe heart of the book is PokerSnowie, an AI-based NLHE software program that has learned and developed an effectively GTO pre-flop strategy given certain fixed conditions (fixed stack sizes and limited bet size options). With the aid of PokerSnowie to establish a conceptual GTO baseline for pre-flop play, what Hunter does is paint a very clear picture of what is happening at the table pre-flop, and beyond: The goal is to establish range-vs.-range pre-flop, with the flop-turn-river as an extension of what happens pre-flop.The book is split into three sections:Part I: The Math (through pg. 42)A quick rundown of basic (various dimensions of equity, pot odds, implied odds, EV) and neo-basic math concepts (combinatorics, SPR, minimum defense frequency), setting the stage for the rest of the book.Part II: Pre-Flop Play (90 pgs.)Using PokerSnowie’s recommendations as a conceptual baseline, Hunter provides an exhaustive range of pre-flop hand charts covering the gamut of pre-flop situations at a nine-handed table: Opening ranges for each position; isolation ranges based on the limper’s position; blind defense and 3-bet ranges based on both the player and opener’s positions; 4-bet and 5-bet ranges based on player positions; and squeezing ranges.PokerSnowie’s recommendations for each situation are an effective GTO (non-exploitative) strategy based on fixed stack and bet sizes, and assuming all other player positions are using the same effectively GTO strategy. Hunter uses this as a baseline, while providing clear recommendations on how to adjust to a range of live opponents, who are typically playing looser and more passively than the opponents that PokerSnowie assumes.With regards to NLHE, GTO play is more a theoretical construct than an actualizable strategy given the limitations of solving for fixed stack and bet sizes. But by studying how PokerSnowie plays against itself under fixed conditions, Hunter is able to present a very clear picture of what we should be thinking about at the table.For example, we know that the button should open with a wider range than the cutoff; we also know that the small blind has more incentive to 3-bet pre-flop than the big blind, and thus should have a wider 3-betting range. And thus if we open with a raise in the cutoff and get 3-bet by the big blind, we know theoretically that the big blind should have a much stronger range than if we open from the button and get 3-bet by the small blind.And if we know what a smart player should be thinking in certain situations and we have an idea of how more typical players think, we have an idea of how to play against smart players and adjust our strategies to target weaker players.When you’re writing a book on poker strategy – and I’ve written four of them myself – you have to make choices on what ideas to present and how you want to present them. Hunter’s decision to present PokerSnowie’s strategy in the tables and then add adjustments is a good one.Part III: Post-Flop Play (133 pgs.)Using hand histories, Hunter covers a fairly complete range of post-flop concepts (value betting, check-raising, check-calling), betting sequences and situations (triple barreling, calling check-raises with top pair), as well as playing in 3-, 4-, and 5-bet pots.While he doesn’t say so explicitly, Hunter does an excellent job of presenting the flop-turn-river as a sequence and an extension of the ranges established pre-flop. That might seem obvious but it’s not – probably 95% of poker authors examine the flop, and then the turn, and then the river.NITPICKINGIt’s not a beginner book for sure, and as written is not really an intermediate-level text either – while Hunter gives a rundown on newer poker boom-era concepts like combinatorics and SPR, he kind of takes it for granted that the reader already knows what GTO is, and what a polarized hand range is. Certainly some explanation on GTO especially is warranted here given that the book is centered around it, and would make the book more accessible to a broader, more intermediate-level audience.Other items:1. Suits in tables. To be fair, 99% of the people reading this book will know that the hands across the table are suited, while the hands going down are unsuited. But the table is not labeled as such; I recommended the book to a friend who is a non-idiot recreational player who plays $2/$5 and $5/$10 but has never used poker software or read a lot of poker books, and I just knew there was a decent chance that the tables would confuse him without explanation. It’s a simple fix, and no real reason not to label the tables.2. Limped and multi-way pots. The book is hyper-focused on isolation strategies, such that there is basically zero discussion on limped or multi-way pots. Granted, such hands are relatively straightforward, but are also fairly common particularly in smaller-stakes games.3. Isolation. Hunter also mentions offhand that the strategy for PLO is to isolate limpers with any playable hand, and to do the same in PLO8 with any A-2-x-x. That’s one way to play those games.OVERALL TAKEOverall, I’m pretty satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend this book to experienced non-idiot poker players, generally speaking. When you’re reading a poker strategy book, you want to be able to identify with the author’s lines of reasoning, and for me this book does that job.Advanced Concepts in No-Limit Hold’em is well thought-through. There’s nothing random here, and there’s a concrete explanation for everything. Hunter also uses hand histories to effectively demonstrate post-flop ideas – and if you know me, you know I like that. And where the book relies heavily on a program with inherent limitations to examine pre-flop play, Hunter consistently asks the right questions to adjust and apply his recommendations to real-world conditions. A++.

Simply the best NLHold'em book available for today's games. This is one of only two books that I've fond that were written using AI software. The other is Matt Janda's "No limit Hold'em for Advanced Players". They both came out around the same time (Summer 2017), but only Hunter is a pro-player. Matt became a doctor, but loves poker and is quite the poker genius, but prefers to play part time for enjoyment only. Both books require repeated study in order to fully digest the vast amount of information and concepts. I would love to see another book from either one of these authors, but it probably won't happen until the software reveals more secrets of the game.

I have played poker as a hobby for almost a decade. I was fortunate enough to get access to most of the content of Hunter's book through hiring him as a poker coach once I started taking the game more seriously. All I can say is, if you think you know how to play NLH, you are probably only peering over the brink of the opening of the rabbit hole. You will learn from Hunter "How to Learn" and "What to Learn". I have read practically every poker book that you might consider good, and I would call this one the best!

This book has a lot of great info, I have read many many poker books on hold-em however Hunter gives you some great charts and hand play by play that will help your game. Tour or cash, you will play better after reading this.!!

This discusses strategy for cash games, not tournaments. Very chart heavy. The concepts can be found elsewhere and in other formats, but if you like looking at charts then this is for you. Ok for cash game players, some value but limited for tournament players.

I have this as a textbook for a class on Persuasion, and it surprises me how much I enjoy reading this. The ideas are very clearly organized and funny anecdotes are littered throughout. Sometimes I forget I'm reading this for class I end up enjoying it so much. This is a good read for anyone interested in learning to be more persuasive or trying to detect persuasion more in their lives.

A good introduction to the theoretical underpinnings of persuasion and the forms it can take, the types of people who are most susceptible to it, as well as its use in corporate language, advertising and PR. What I felt was missing was a roadmap of how one can be more influential in practical terms. That said, I still have a chapter or two left...

Patterns of items to be made are discussed row by row where the hard parts are. Lots of different techniques.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

I really liked the "how to" style on this one. I am so tired of "you must buy the yarn I made this with which is 20$ a small hank and you will need 20 of them for the small size and you must get my gauge" etc. Read it, get a pencil and paper, and a calculator (makes my life easier), and get started making something ... and remember to swatch ...

It is a highly-endearing style for an author to use, but it makes you want to personally befriend her and learn from her at the same time.Notice that the first chapter title head is the same as the title of one of her most popular later hard-cover books (TOK), which was published after her death. Chapter 2 (and onward are titled as follows): Gauge: Required Reading; 3. Ski Sweaters in Color Patterns; 4. Seamless Sweaters; 5. Other knitted Garments; and 6. The Washing of Sweaters.Following these 6 chapters is the Bibliography and then the Index.(Note that many of the chapter heads in this book are discussed in more detail in later books because they have fomented discussion and problem solving from its readers in THIS book. For example, WHO DOESN’T WORRY ABOUT knitting GAUGE problems? Also, all of EZ’s books could be read according to their publication dates because these were the most important topics to her to write about at those times. [She already knew about American knitter’s problems because she used to publish her patterns in Vogue Knitting, McCalls, and other US magazines before she started writing her books and holding her annual HK conference on her farm in WI.] TOK was co-written after her death by her daughter Meg and some other people to celebrate EZ’s life but to also showcase some of the main HK topics that people wanted to know about. Conversely, TOK could be the perfect book for EZ followers to commence their HK journeys because it is, in many ways, a grand re-cap of EZ’s teaching and life philosophy – and the color photos and many black and white stitch and pattern graphic help keep readers’ attention.)One of EZ’S bons mots AND pragmatics in KWT is: “A well-made sweater, knitted and with Good Will and Good Wool, is beyond price; why try to solve a dollar on the material?”One of her remedies of ALMOST perfect dye lots or colors is absolutely stellar: Read the book to find out what she says and how to do it.Continuing, EZ gives ways to use up different remnants of yarn – a problem from which all knitters suffer. All of them should be part of a serious HKer’s library for reference, for inspiration, for problem-solving, and for learning how to HK from a guru.

I had purchased this book in the early '70's, but lost it (and every thing else) in a wildfire 3 years ago. I learned how to knit from a left handed grandmother, who knit "continental" or "German" stile, and never could figure out how to read a conventional knitting pattern, which left me knitting "long straight things", or stocking caps. After this book, socks became my favorite thing to knit. I was also able to knit myself a beautiful sweater, from yarn I had spun myself, as well as an assortment of other items. I love the content of the book. That is why I had re-purchased it.My only complaint is the actual pages are not of the same quality as the original. The paper is much thinner, and the printing looks like it had been "photo copied" and then printed on each page. The printing left huge right margin, while if the font had been larger, would have filled the page in a more pleasing image.

I really not sure if I gave this book an appropriate rating--I really don't know how to rate it because I think I over-rated my knitting skills! I am a hat, scarf, ear warmer, dish cloth knitter. I am not a sweater knitter. I do not cable knit. Seeing directions that call for a double pointed needle give me the chills. I guess what I am saying is, this book is not for the likes of me. This book is at least for an intermediate knitter. I purchased this book for 1 pattern--that is the garter stitch 2 needle slipper with cuff. I found myself "you-tubing" to help me understand what I needed to do such as "pick-up and knit". Also, I was a bit into the pattern before I realized I was to make an increase on each row and conversely a decrease on each row. Maybe more experienced knitters would have known that--I just did not. A brief sentence stating so would have been helpful to me. Also, I have the piece finished but am totally clueless as to how I am to put it together. A diagram would have been helpful to me.--as to what goes where. Again, after reading these rave reviews--I believe it is my lack of abilities because others seem to find this book helpful. I just did not.

This wonderful book will hold your hand as you wander in the Never land of knitting. I curently am using it to learn how to join sleeves and body of a sweater knitted i the round and it couldn't be easier! The Norwegian sweter is beautiful, each of my 5 hildren had one with their name in the hem. Do buy it, if just to read. You will be knitting in no time if you do. It's that good. Incidentally, I have five copies of this. I keep losing them and then, rather than go without I buy another. Not neat, but smart.

(It doesn't hurt that his friend-who's-a-girl's grandfather owns the team!) At the same time, he's in a nail-biting Fantasy League competition showdown. And let's not forget that he's on a youth football team of his own, vying for the championship! You never know what's going to happen next.Perfect for the 10-to-14-year-old audience and those who remember what it was like.

In this book, Fantasy League, there is Action, Emotion, and Intelligence like you wouldn't, or couldn't imagine. This book is about a boy named Charlie Gaines who only has a mom to be his care taker and friend, until Anna Warren and Joe Warren. In this amazing and thrilling book, Anna and Charlie are best friends living a normal school life, except the fact that Anna's family owns the made up NFL team, the L.A Bulldogs. And Anna's Gramps, or Joe Warren, owns it all. Plus, if it isn't relevant, Charlie is the Fantasy King, and when the two paths of Joe Warren and Charlie cross, it is a true friendship at first sight. All Charlie and Mr. Warren do is talk football, when Charlie suggests a player to Mr. Warren, and Joe actually takes the suggestion and Charlie becomes famous in sports for helping the Bulldogs and giving them some wins. This cycle continues until something terrible happens to Joe Warren, and that is the emotional part. This Mike Lupica books is one of my favorites because it is not told by Charlie or anyone, it is told by an amazing point, telling you only what Charlie is thinking, but not anyone else. I recommend this book to people that love a good climax late in the story and love reading about great friendships. And football, of course.

My son read this book so quickly - he simply could not put it down. He said that the main character, Charlie, was amazing and reminded him of his best friend at school. Finding books that my son loves and has characters like Mr. Warren who was an older man but was pivotal to the plot was a nice addition. Too many books for youths portray adults as essentially broken individuals requiring a child to fix some crisis or event. This book was more balanced and included the brain to brawn element that allows both athletes and non-athletes to enjoy the read. Mike Lupica creates a story that young readers love whether they are into fantasy football or 'real' football.

This was purchased as a gift for our grandson. I had heard a radio personality talking about it on the radio and I thought this would be perfect for him. He loves sports and reading and has fun creating his own Fantasy Football Team to play along with his dad and uncles and we just knew this couldn't miss. Well, we were right . . . he loved it!!

Excellent product that was delivered ahead of schedule--would buy from seller again.

Using it for tutoring an 11 year old football fanatic. It is going well and I am also enjoying the story.
